BOYS BASKETBALL

Shawano 75

Green Bay Preble 60

Carter Weisnicht and Nick Sherman powered Shawano to a Sun Drop Shootout victory over Green Bay Preble on Friday at the Kress Center in Green Bay.

Weisnicht led the Hawks with 31 points, while Sherman added 24. Sherman hit five 3-pointers, while Weisnicht knocked down four.

Joe Mente chipped in seven points off the bench.

Shawano hit six 3-pointers in the first six-plus minutes of the second half to break open a tight game.

Bonduel 71

St. Thomas Aquinas Academy 31

Bonduel eased past St. Thomas Aquinas Academy in a Gresham Holiday Tournament matchup on Friday in Gresham.

Cole Letter paced Bonduel by scoring 13 points, while Dylan Burch tallied 12. Garrett Engel and Reece Stoltenow each contributed nine points for the Bears, while Brett Margelofsky had eight.

Bonduel hit 10 3-pointers in the contest.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Manitowoc Lincoln 67

Shawano 61

Shawano could not hold a 22-point halftime lead in a Sun Drop Shootout loss to Manitowoc Lincoln on Friday at the Kress Center in Green Bay.

Brianna Wright carried the Hawks to their halftime lead, scoring 19 of her 23 points in the first half. Wright hit three 3-pointers and tallied the team’s final 13 points before halftime.

Avery Dreier tallied 11 points, while Rachel Reed had 10. Lydia Beyer contributed seven points.

Menominee Indian loses two games at own tourney

Menominee Indian dropped a pair of tight games at the Menominee Indian Holiday Tournament on Friday in Keshena.

In a 51-40 loss to Wabeno/Laona, Mimi Beaulieu-Morgan led Menominee Indian with 18 points. Senihsaeh Wayka added 11 points.

In a 48-43 setback to Oneida Nation, Wayka tallied 15 points, while Beaulieu-Morgan chipped in 13.

"This was one of our better efforts of the season," said Menominee Indian coach Michael Skenadore of the Oneida Nation game. "We worked hard and stayed disciplined. Passing and cutting were key factors and then our defense stayed solid throughout the game. I think this is something we can build off as we move forward."

Bowler 74

Gresham 72 (OT)

Bowler edged Gresham in overtime of a Gresham Holiday Tournament matchup on Friday in Gresham.

Kayla Pecore scored 19 points to lead a balanced Bowler offensive attack. Brooke Thiex added 16 points, while Tynea Johnson had 15 and Alyssa Strassburg 14.

Hannah Cerveny scored 24 points to pace Gresham. Valarie Cerveny and Makayla Belongia tallied 18 points each.

Bonduel 85

Washburn 23

Bonduel cruised past Washburn in a Gresham Holiday Tournament matchup on Friday in Gresham.

Allaina Robaidek scored 23 points to lead Bonduel's offense. Kara Troxel contributed 15 points, seven steals and six assists, while Madison Kurey had 15 points, 10 rebounds and six steals.

"Our half-court offense was very good, as well as our transition game. Ten of 12 kids on our roster were able to crack the scoring column," said Bonduel coach Jerry Reinke.

WRESTLING

Shawano goes 2-3 on first day of tournament

Shawano posted a 2-3 dual record on the first day of the Northern Exposure Tournament on Friday in Merrill.

Wyatt Brandt (126/132) and Noah Jones (138) won all five of their matches on the day for Shawano.

Nick Kohn (285), Keith Tourtillott (220), Andrew Popp (170), Gage Timm (160) and Ben Carroll (152) all lost just once.

"The team wrestled about as well as we expected today, going 2-3," said Shawano coach Mike Homan. "Our three losses were against tough competition and the kids wrestled well in those matches but just came up a bit short. Nick Kohn, Noah Jones, Andrew Popp and Gage Timm all stood out today, wrestling exceptionally well. The rest of the team put in good efforts to battle during our duals."
