Shawano girls take 7th, boys 9th at invite

Shawano opened its fall season on Friday, competing in the Appleton West Terror Invitational at Winagamie Golf Course in Neenah on Friday. The girls finished with a score of 203 to take seventh, while the boys were ninth with a mark of 244.

Leading the way for the girls was Lydia Beyer, Odessa Arce and Grace Beyer who came in 22nd, 23rd and 26th with times of 20 minutes, 52.36 seconds, 20:53.81 and 20:54.53, respectively. Claire Guenther (22:15.46) and Rachael Warax (24:49.83) rounded out the five-runner team, placing 48th and 90th, respectively.

Freshman Alec White posted a time of 18:02.62 to place 24th and lead the Shawano boys. Ethan Chelberg (18:11.83) took 29th, while Johnny Dillenburg (18:54.47) finished 52nd. Aidan Preston (19:59.78) and Joe Mente (20:18.24) took 74th and 79th to fill out the team.

Clintonville ends tournament on high note

After a tough first day at the Friendship Tournament in Wisconsin Dells, Clintonville ended the tourney by winning two of its last three matches.

On Thursday, the Truckers dropped matches to Waunakee (25-12, 25-9), Hutisford (23-25, 25-11, 15-7), Holmen (25-17, 25-15) and Fall River (25-23, 25-16). On Friday, the Truckers took down Rhinelander (25-18, 25-22) and Shawano (25-19, 24-26, 15-13) before falling to Prairie du Chien (24-26, 25-14, 15-13).

In the win over Rhinelander, Autumn Steede finished with six attack kills and four digs. Lindsy Carpenter had 12 assists, while McKinzie Fields had four digs and three service aces.

Against Shawano, Steede led the team with eight attack kills and six digs, while Josie Colla had seven kills and eight digs. Emma Zwirschitz tallied five attack kills, Abbey Schreiber had 15 digs and Carpenter totaled six digs and three attack kills.
