Heninger leaving Gresham for superintendent post

Benjamin Heninger, principal for grades 6-12 at Gresham Community School, has accepted a position to serve as superintendent of the Butternut School District, effective July 1.

Since joining the staff in Gresham in 2016, he was a member of the administrative team that oversaw a period of sustained growth in the Gresham School District, culminating in the completion of a new junior and senior high school addition in fall 2020. He was promoted to principal in 2017.

Reflecting on his time as a Wildcat, Heninger recalled the growth of partnerships that continue to inspire his passion for servant leadership in education.

“Looking back over the past six years, I can honestly say that we never ran out of ideas to help make our school a better place,” Henninger said. “It is such a caring staff, supportive community, and a dedicated school board that remains committed to a vision of doing what is best for all children.”

According to Superintendent Newell Haffner, the district is looking for a principal for all grades to take over for Heninger. Haffner currently serves as the principal for the elementary grades.
