The Gresham Community High School softball team will try to blend experience and youth when the spring season gets underway.

Coach Amanda Reindl has several experienced upperclassmen back this spring, including a pair of all-conference players from 2019. A number of new faces will round out the roster.

“Since we weren’t even able to hold a practice last season, the girls will be a little rusty,” said Reindl. “COVID has dropped some of our numbers, but looking forward to the new faces who have decided to come out this season.”

Senior Destiny Reindl will look to pick up where she left off after making the Central Wisconsin Conference-North Division first team as a sophomore. She will pitch, catch and play third base for the team this spring.

Junior Valarie Cerveny is the other returning all-conference player. She landed on the all-conference second team two years ago, and she will also catch and play third base for the team.

Also back with varsity experience are seniors Kaylee Bohm (first base), Makayla Belongia (shortstop, center field) and Makayla Butschli (second base, outfield). Junior Kalayla Tucker (outfield) also has some varsity experience.

“As a senior on the team, I plan on taking a leadership role throughout the season and ensuring the girls are working hard while still having fun,” said Bohm. “With last season off, there will be some difficulties among the team with picking up new different concepts and precautions. But that will help with team bonding and pushing for excellence this spring season.”
