Grace May McKay

Grace May McKay, 96, of Shawano, passed away peacefully with family by her side Friday, Sept. 6, 2019. Grace was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Milwaukee, to the late Albert and Sylvia (Jensen) Prichard.

On Sept. 13, 1939, Grace was united in marriage to Lawrence “Mac” McKay Sr. in Milwaukee. Lawrence preceded Grace in death Jan. 21, 2003, after 63 years of marriage.

In her younger years, Grace farmed in the Clintonville and Embarrass areas. She went on to work in the Hansen glove factory and Hortonville toy factory. Grace was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Clintonville.

Grace and Lawrence liked to spend their winters in Texas, and they enjoyed their pug dogs. She was a loving wife of 63 years and a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed.

Grace is survived by her children, Don (Judy) McKay, of Jacksonville, Florida, John (Pat) McKay, of Morro Bay, California, Lawrence “Mac” (Mary) McKay, of Lake Carroll, Illinois, and William McKay, of Neenah; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence McKay Sr.; her parents, Albert and Sylvia Prichard; and her siblings, Clarence, Wally, Mildred and Ruth.

A funeral service will be held for Grace at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
