Girls Basketball: Gillett earns No. 2 seed for postseason

GILLETT — After an impressive regular season, the Gillett High School girls basketball team was rewarded for its strong play with a No. 2 seed in the Division 5 tournament.

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association released girls basketball brackets on Sunday.

Gillett also received a bye with its No. 2 seed and will host either seventh-seeded Gibraltar or 10th-seeded Suring in a regional semifinal on Feb. 28.

Suring’s regional quarterfinal game against Gibraltar will be played in Gibraltar on Feb. 25.

Lena is the No. 13 seed in the same regional pod. The Wildcats will travel to take on fourth-seeded Wausaukee on Feb. 25.

The winner of the quarterfinal game will take on either fifth-seeded Wabeno/Laona or 12th-seeded Bowler in the semifinal. Oneida Nation is the No. 1 seed in the regional pod.

Oconto Falls picked up a No. 4 seed in Division 3. The Panthers will host fifth-seeded Xavier on Feb. 28 after both teams received opening round byes.

The winner of the regional semifinal will take on top-seeded Wrightstown, eighth-seeded Peshtigo or ninth-seeded Amherst in the regional title game Feb. 29.
