GILLETT — The Gillett High School girls basketball team was in the hunt for a Marinette & Oconto Conference title this winter, due in large part to the play of juniors Aubrey DeBauch and Karissa Schaal.

The two players were recognized by the conference for their efforts on the court, making the all-conference first team.

“It really means a lot knowing that hard work does pay off,” said Schaal of the honor. “It sets real high standards for next year and definitely will motivate me to put even more time and work into it and maybe be named first team all-conference next season or even honorable mention.”

“It’s a great accomplishment to be recognized as first team all-conference,” said DeBauch. “I’m honored to be on the first team with the other girls and my own teammate, Karissa Schaal.”

Schaal averaged the third-most points per game (19.8) in M&O play, while DeBauch (14.2) was sixth.

DeBauch led the Tigers with 10.1 rebounds, 5.2 steals, 2.3 blocks and 3.9 assists per conference game. Schaal averaged 7.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.8 steals.

Gillett finished the season with a 17-7 overall record, going 13-3 in the M&O to tie for second place. The Tigers made it to a regional final in the postseason.

Suring

Junior Kylee Stelzer made an all-conference team for the third-straight year, landing on the honorable mention team after leading Suring on the court.

“It’s an honor being a part of the top players in the conference. It has been another fun year,” said Stelzer. “I will continue to work hard throughout the summer and set even higher goals for my senior season.”

Stelzer finished the conference portion of the schedule averaging 13.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game.

Suring finished with an overall record of 7-16 after earning a 4-12 mark in conference play.
