Girl, 13, dies in ATV crash near Bonduel
A 13-year-old girl died May 15 as the result of an ATV crash south of Bonduel.
About 8:30 p.m., the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call indicating there was an ATV crash in the area of Landstad and Two Creek roads. The caller advised there was a girl who was unconscious and not breathing as a result of the crash. Multiple law enforcement officers responded, as well as emergency medical service personnel. The crash occurred on private property near this location.
Upon arrival, CPR was in progress on the girl. Navarino-Lessor EMS and NEW Ambulance arrived on scene and requested ThedaStar Helicopter to respond to the area as well. Multiple crews performed life saving measures on the girl. Due to injuries sustained in this incident, the girl was unfortunately pronounced deceased on scene.
Because the crash was ATV related, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was called to assist. The initial investigation confirmed the girl was the sole occupant and the driver of the ATV when the crash occurred. There was one witness on scene who was able to provide clarity to law enforcement as to how this accident occurred. All parties, including the girl’s parents, were cooperative with law enforcement.
The DNR is the primary agency investigating this crash and no further information will be released at this time. The sheriff’s department reported it will not be releasing any names.
The girl was a student in the Bonduel School District, so the sheriff’s department set up additional services for students.
“We would like to encourage everyone and their families to keep ATV and UTV safety in mind as the weather continues to warm up,” said Lt. Chris Madle, the county’s emergency management coordinator. “Wear a helmet, buckle up, complete ATV/UTV safety courses and please drive safely and cautiously.”
The sheriff’s department and DNR were assisted in this matter by Navarino-Lessor EMS, NEW Ambulance, Navarino-Lessor Fire Department, ThedaStar and the Shawano County Coroner’s Office.
