The Gillett, Suring and Lena girls volleyball teams all had players recognized by the Marinette & Oconto Conference during the fall season.

Seniors Aubrey DeBauch, Karissa Schaal and Emily Umentum and junior Naomi Anker made the all-conference list for Gillett.

Seniors Kelsey Smith and Cher Whiting and sophomore Trinity Remic represented Suring on the list, while senior Morgan Cruz was Lena’s lone all-conference selection.

Instead of breaking down the all-conference selections between a first, second and honorable mention team, all the players recognized were placed on one list.

Umentum finished the season with 213 assists, 58 digs, 28 combined kills and 17 service aces.

“It is a huge honor to be awarded an all-conference spot,” said Umentum. “This year has been very challenging with scheduling and my team having to quarantine. We only played half of the games we usually play, and for me to be recognized is a very big honor. Since it was my last year, I’m so grateful that I was given this award for all of my hard work.”

Schaal accumulated 145 combined kills, 112 digs and 14 service aces, while DeBauch capped the season with 79 combined kills, 58 digs and seven service aces.

Anker finished with 77 digs and eight service aces.

During Suring’s regular season, Smith led the team with 30 kills in four matches. She also finished with 30 digs.

Whiting was the Eagles’ setter, tallying 40 assists. She also recorded 38 digs and 19 kills, finishing with a serving percentage of 93.

“Is it a great honor to be recognized by underclassmen, my team and other players in the conference,” said Whiting. “I’m hoping my work ethic will reflect onto younger players on my team in hopes of excelling to their potential. I’m very grateful to earn an all-conference award and to those who recognized my accomplishments.”

Remic was Suring’s libero (back-row defensive specialist) posting 33 digs on the season. “She does a nice job reading the offense and is willing to do what she needs to in order to pass or even get her hand on the ball,” said coach Tonia Kruschke of Remic.

Cruz was one of four seniors on Lena’s roster. She helped the team to a couple wins this season, including a postseason victory against Marion.
