A new water heater is in store for the Gillett School District.

The school board unanimously voted Sept. 16 to approve a purchase of a new water heater for the secondary school kitchen.

“Our dishwasher was not passing state regulation for heated water,” said Gillett superintendent Todd Hencsik.

After researching the issue, it was found that the water heater was the culprit for the cool water, not the dishwasher itself.

The purchase of the water heater costs $6,300. The money will be coming out of Fund 50, the designated fund for food services.

“We had surplus money to use,” said Hencsik. “We were reimbursed for free lunches.”

With the money, Hencsik and the board decided to use it for improvements on the school. This will start with the purchase of the water heater.

Hencsik and the board anticipate that this water heater will be used for a long time.
