Genevieve M. Newton

By:

Genevieve (Gen) M. Newton, 91, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, at Savannah Grace Nursing home in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Clarence (Squirt) A. Newton, in 2007; and son, Thomas A. Newton, in 2016.

Genevieve was born and raised in Niagara, the daughter of Clifford and Mary Nault. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in education at Whitewater College and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international organization for women educators. Squirt and Gen were married on Aug. 25, 1951, in Niagara. Gen and Squirt both started their teaching careers in Melrose and later moved to Shawano, where she taught business classes. Gen and Squirt spent the remainder of their teaching careers in Shawano and raised their three children, Tom, Mike and Mary. They retired from teaching in 1989.

Gen was known for her love of life, dedication to her faith, family and friends. She and Squirt spent their summers at their beloved cottage on Trump Lake in Wabeno. Squirt quickly came and went everywhere with her, and just before they left, he would always say, “Come on, Gen.” Their commitment to each other withstood the test of time and separation and are once again back together.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Janet) Newton, of Wabeno; daughter, Mary (Robert) Rozek, of Bluffton, South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Cindy Newton, of Charleston, South Carolina; grandchildren, Holly (Shadi) Khalil, of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Nicolas (Michelle) Newton, of Charleston, South Carolina, Clifford (Cat) Newton, of Wabeno, Aubrey Leigh Newton, of Portland, Oregon, Jordan (Michelle) Rozek, of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Taylor Rozek, of Bluffton, South Carolina; and several great-grandchildren.
