Frederick ‘Fred’ James True

By:

Frederick “Fred” James True, 62, of Shawano, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020. Fred was born on March 7, 1957 in Hillsdale, Michigan, to the late John H. and Frances C. (McGann) True.

Upon graduation he went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy. On May 1, 2004, Fred was united in marriage to Terri Seidl in Shawano. Fred was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years. When walking his route, he made many friends and never hesitated to assist them in any way he could, including occasionally shoveling their sidewalks. Fred also loved the many dogs that he encountered along his route and was always ready with a friendly smile and a treat for them.

He was a sports fanatic and absolutely loved golf. He golfed in a golf league and tried to make it to the course two to three times a week. He was also a member of the Big Winnie Fishing Club and was appropriately given the nickname Cliff. Becoming a grandpa to twins Ella and Olivia was one of the biggest thrills and highlights of Fred’s life. He will be their angel in heaven, always looking over them.

Fred is survived by his wife of 15 years, Terri; his daughter, Amanda True, of Shawano; his two stepchildren, Kelly (Josh) Barbosa and Brad Collins, both of Shawano; his twin granddaughters, Ella and Olivia; his siblings, Mary (special friend Mike) Dillenburg, Bill (Sharon) True, Barb (Steve) Mantei, Tom (Sue) True, Susan (Rick) Stadelman, and Jane (David) Blohm; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marilyn and Ed Seidl-Lorenz; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Patti and Russ Stingle, Cindy and Randy Samson, Debbie (significant other Tom) Seidl, and Katie Collins. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service for Fred will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Scott Ludford officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the AMVETS Post 10 following services. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Hedy Kindler, Burkley Rose, RN, and their team at the University of Chicago. Also, thank you to the ThedaCare hospice team, especially Holly and Molly.
