One village in Shawano County is bringing back its annual Fourth of July celebration.

The village of Tigerton will once again celebrate Independence Day in their village, although this year, the festivities will look a little different. Instead of holding their normal block party with music, followed by fireworks, there will only be a fireworks show this year.

Tigerton did not hold a celebration last year due to concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic, but Fourth of July celebrations in Tigerton in recent years have consisted of silent auctions and polka music, with food vendors.

Tigerton Main Street Director Andrea Graham attributes not running the block party to finances involved with the event.

“We are not holding the block party this year because it has not been working financially for Tigerton Main Street in the past,” said Graham.

Graham added that, due to Tigerton having a small population, there hasn’t been a very big attendance at the block party in recent years.

“I don’t know if the block party will be missed,” said Graham. “It is not a heavily attended event.”

With the block party not being particularly popular, Graham said that the fireworks show is often admired.

“People really do like seeing the fireworks,” said Graham. “It is a great show.”

She mentioned that a good amount of people often come out to see the fireworks show.

“I would estimate that there are probably 300 people that are usually there,” said Graham. “I am expecting to see a number around that mark this year.”

The fireworks will be displayed for Tigerton residents at dusk on July 4 and they will be shot off at the high school.
