Ernest F. Berthold

Ernest Frank Berthold, 90, died on Jan. 6, 2022, in St. Croix Falls at the Divine Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility.

He was born in Milwaukee on Feb. 13, 1931. He graduated from Messmer High School in 1949. During the Korean conflict, he was a member of the 504th Air Force Band as a featured accordionist and clarinet player. He was stationed at Truax Field in Madison. He married Julie Butler on Nov. 15, 1952. They had two children, Mary Berthold-Johnson (Robert Johnson) and Thomas (Stephanie) Berthold.

Ernie worked in data processing at the Bank of Madison in Madison and in Milwaukee at Midland Bank and Fiserv. He retired with his wife in 1995 and lived in Shawano on Shawano Lake, which he so loved. He was married for 67 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Julie; parents, Rose and Alfred Berthold; and a brother, Erwin.

Funerals services will be private.

The Kolstad Family Funeral Home in Centuria was entrusted with arrangements.
