ABRAMS — A Michigan man was in the Oconto County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bond after he allegedly pointed a gun at another car in a road-rage incident.

Jeffrey C. Stenfors, 47, of Skandia, is charged in Oconto County Circuit Court with three counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety along with misdemeanor counts of carrying a concealed weapon and resisting or obstructing an officer. The incident allegedly occurred near the U.S. Highway 41-141 scales in Abrams around 4:30 p.m. Sept. 13.

According to the criminal complaint, a couple saw Stenfors’ vehicle weaving between the northbound lanes, and they could see he was texting while driving. As they passed, they rolled down the passenger’s window, and the man shouted that Stenfors should stop texting.

The couple reported that the Michigan car then started tailgating and saw the driver point a gun at them through his windshield. An Oconto County deputy made a traffic stop a few minutes later.

Stenfors told the officer he mimicked a gun by pointing his cellphone, but officers found a loaded handgun on the passenger’s seat, the complaint said.

After setting bail, Judge Jay N. Conley advised Stenfors of his right to counsel and referred the case to the Public Defender’s Office. His initial appearance was adjourned until Oct. 17.
