David Schommer

David Adam Schommer, 84, of Shawano, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019, surrounded by his family. David was born on July 4, 1935, in Stockbridge to the late Joseph and Philomena (Franzen) Schommer.

He was drafted into the United States Army and served proudly until being honorably discharged. David was united in marriage on Sept. 2, 1961, to his polka partner and love of his life “Poopsie” Audrey Zuleger in Appleton.

He and Audrey owned and operated Washington Resort on Shawano Lake for over 26 years. David also worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry and had his own back hoe at home named “Casey,” his pride and joy.

David was a jack of all trades, he could fix anything and always had the right tool for the job. He enjoyed traveling and cooking. He was well known for his delicious soups. He was a true family man who loved his family with all of his heart.

David is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Audrey; his children, Bob (Chris) Schommer, of DePere, Kris (Russell) Robaidek, of Pulaski, Karen (Rocky) Robaidek, of Bonduel, and Kathy (Gordy Sorenson) McClone, of Bonduel; his grandchildren, Stephanie Koehne, Nicholas Schommer, Nathan Schommer, Brooke (Tom Tkatch) Robaidek, Beth (Josh) Przybylski, Bryce Robaidek, Dalton Robaidek, Brandon Robaidek, Preston Robaidek, Carson Robaidek and Mandi McClone; great-grandchildren, Arabelle, Onyx, Skyler, Eviana and Ellie Mae; and his siblings, Catherine Nadler, Marvin (Donna) Schommer, and Donald Schommer. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Philomena and his siblings, Delphine Schommer, Francis “Fritz” Schommer, Rosemary “Rosie” Schommer, and Delores Goeser.

Funeral Mass will be held for David at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with the Rev. Scott Valentyn officiating. Entombment will be at Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Military honors will be conducted by the Bonduel American Legion. Visitation will be at Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019, from 4-8 p.m. and again at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
