Daniel J. Smith Sr.

By:

Daniel Joseph Smith Sr., of Bowler, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021, at Aspirus Langlade Hospital. He was 74 years old. He was born July 1, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana, a son of Harry and Annice (Ritter) Smith. He married Dela Owen on April 21, 1990, at Antigo United Methodist Church.

Daniel was a master plumber in business with his father for many years. He then worked for the Pinellas County School District as a plumber. Later he worked for St. Petersburg Junior College in Clearwater, Florida, as a custodian and, later, as groundskeeper. He retired in 1995 and moved to Bowler. Daniel was employed at North Star Casino for 20 years, retiring in 2017.

Dan was a proud father and husband who cherished time with his family. He loved spending time working outside with his family in the orchard and garden, fishing on the lakeshores or just talking around the fire with loved ones. A huge history and film buff, Dan loved learning for the sake of it and sharing that with anyone happy to listen.

In addition to his wife, Dela, survivors include a daughter, Diane Smith, of Menomonee Falls; a son, Daniel Smith Jr., of Wausau; mother-in-law, Rosemary Owen, of Mattoon; and brothers-in-law, Brian (Dawn) Owen, of Mattoon, and Austin (Sonja) Owen of Grapevine, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Earl Owen.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 3, at 11 a.m. at the Antigo United Methodist Church with the Rev. Debbie Pimm officiating. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Those attending the visitation and service are required to wear a mask.
