Dairyland teams continue to battle for position

As the Dairyland League entered its final month of the season, the standings continued to tighten up. This past weekend’s games saw Bonduel, Navarino and Nichols earn key wins, while Hortonville picked up two victories.

Bonduel 6, Waupaca 5

The Bonduel Broncos rallied for a home win over the Waupaca Lakemen on Sunday in Bonduel.

Down 5-1, Bonduel (4-3) began its comeback in the sixth inning when Noah Beilfuss drove in a run with a single. Hunter Van Der Linden delivered a two-run single in the seventh for the hosts. Bonduel completed the comeback in the eighth by scoring two more runs, with the go-ahead run scoring on a sacrifice flyout by Jordan Boldt.

Chase Reinke recorded three hits and two runs for Bonduel, while Beilfuss had two hits. J.C Reinke earned the win in relief of Wyatt Reinke and Jack Reinke.

Walker Smith and Luke Behm each had two hits and two RBIs for Waupaca (4-3). Jacob Popham had the team’s other RBI, and also scored twice. Behm took the loss on the mound after taking over for Cam Seidl in the seventh.

Navarino 9, Freedom 2

The Navarino Rangers moved a game over the .500 mark after a convincing win over the Freedom Mets on Sunday in Navarino.

Ryan Boettcher led Navarino (4-3) at the plate with three hits and three RBIs. He also pitched a complete game and struck out six batters.

Mason Dingeldein and Kendall Lecker had two hits each for the Rangers, while Bailey Dingeldein scored three runs.

Balin Welch and Braden Schneider each drove in a run for Freedom (1-6). Welch had three hits, while Schneider, Nick Nicholson and Jake Schramm had two each. Hunter Schabo took the loss, while Schneider also pitched two innings.

Nichols 4, Cecil 0

The Nichols Nitros earned their fifth win after shutting out the Cecil Mudhens on Sunday in Nichols.

Justin Krull had two hits, a RBI and scored a run for Nichols (5-2). Sam Blunk also drove in a run. Sam Fonder and Krull pitched for the Nitros.

Cecil (0-7) had just four hits in the contest, all singles. Brandon Hagel took the loss, while Jacob Springborn also pitched.

Hortonville 9, Hofa Park 4

The Hortonville Stars secured their second win of the week in a home win over the Hofa Park Panthers on Sunday.

Hortonville improved to 5-2 in league play.

Robbie Schuettpelz led Hofa Park (2-5) with two hits and a RBI. The Panthers had 10 hits on the day.

Hortonville 9, Shawano 0

The Stars and Shawano Lobos kicked off Dairyland play last week, with Hortonville rolling to a win Friday in Shawano.

Shawano slipped to 3-3 on the season.

Shawano, Pulaski game postponed

The Sunday contest between the Lobos and Pulaski Reds was postponed due to rain.

The teams have rescheduled the game to Wednesday, Aug. 5.
