Dairyland standings tighten up

Two games decided in extra innings

The Dairyland League playoff race tightened up after the most recent weekend of games were played. Six of the league’s 10 teams have either three or four wins.

Shawano 9, Cecil 1

The Shawano Lobos used a pair of four-run innings to roll to a win over the Cecil Mudhens on Friday in Shawano.

Dylan Berg had three hits and two RBIs for the Lobos (3-2). Riley Acra and Ryan Coffey each chipped in two hits.

Jimmy Lacy earned the win for Shawano, striking out five batters over six innings. Casey Baumann tossed three scoreless innings to wrap up the win.

Riddik Bohm drove in Brandon Hagel for Cecil’s lone run. Hagel took the loss after pitching the first six innings, although he only surrendered three earned runs. Reece Stoltenow threw two scoreless frames for the Mudhens (0-6).

Nichols 3, Bonduel 0

The Nichols Nitros scored three runs in the second inning and held on to that lead the rest of the way in a home win over the Bonduel Broncos on Sunday.

Sam Fonder drove in two runs for Nichols (4-2) while Clayton Van Lanen had the other RBI.

Fonder also earned the win on the mound after striking out six batters over seven innings. Justin Krull worked the final two frames.

Chase Reinke had all three hits for Bonduel (3-3). Mitch Pleshek took the loss after pitching the first two innings. Noah Beilfuss surrendered just three hits across the final six innings.

Pulaski 9, Freedom 3

The Pulaski Reds remained perfect in league play after a convincing win over the Freedom Mets on Sunday in Pulaski.

Jarrett Olson, Ethan Bemowski, Nate Becher, and Cody Wichmann all had multiple hits on the day for Pulaski (6-0). Drew McDermid picked up the win on the hill, striking out nine batters over seven innings. Joel Vandehei pitched the final two innings.

Dakota Brockman and Ross Wolfgram each had two hits for Freedom (1-5) while Travis Vander Loop drove in two runs. Hunter Schabo, Braden Schneider and Jake Gonnering all pitched for the Mets.

Hortonville 5, Navarino 2

The Hortonville Stars moved a game over .500 after a 15-inning win over the Navarino Rangers on Sunday in Navarino.

Tommy Dugandzic had three hits for Hortonville (3-2) while Mike Bunkleman and Nick Dugandzic each had two hits.

Connor Medvecz earned the win and Tommy Dugandzic got the save. Hortonville pitchers combined for 23 strikeouts in the contest.

Navarino fell to 3-3 on the season.

Hofa Park 2, Waupaca 1

The Hofa Park Panthers got a much-needed win on Sunday, edging the Waupaca Lakemen in 11 innings in Waupaca.

Luke Zablocki delivered the game-winning hit for Hofa Park (2-4), singling home Marcus Hornacek. Robert Schuettpelz drove in the team’s other run, while Bob Tilot finished with two hits.

Tyler Jacobson earned the win after tossing the final two innings. Jon Zacherius struck out four batters in nine strong innings of work.

Wes Austin scored the lone run for Waupaca (4-2). Cam Seidl pitched the first 10 innings, striking out 16 batters. Jim Nighbor was handed the loss.
