SHERWOOD — Shawano Community High School’s Demetrius Kaquatosh was the top finisher at the Bay Conference Meet at High Cliff Golf Course on Thursday.

Kaquatosh completed the course in 16 minutes, 15 seconds, over 12 seconds quicker than any other boys runner.

‘The race felt great. In the beginning of the week, I was the underdog, I wasn’t expected to win and coming across the finish line it felt great, it was really unforgettable,” said Kaquatosh. “I’m hoping that this will boost my confidence over to sectionals where I wish to qualify for state.”

Kaquatosh’s top finish helped the boys team finish second with a score of 54. New London (38) came in first.

The Shawano girls also took second with a team score of 54. Xavier (27) finished first.

Odessa Arce was the top finisher on the Shawano girls team, earning a time of 19:59.4 to take fifth.

“I finished today accomplishing a small goal I set of breaking 20 minutes,” said Arce. “This gives me courage going into the sectional meet because I feel like I can have an even stronger finish yet.”

Alec White (16:34.1) took fifth, while Zachary Black (17:01.4) came in ninth for the boys. Johnny Dillenburg (17:24.7) and Ethan Chelberg (17:48.2) rounded out the team score.

Grace Beyer (20:08.1) and Claire Guenther (20:32.2) finished sixth and 10th, respectively, for the girls, while Lydia Beyer (20:47.1) took 11th. Rachael Warax (22:32.2) was the team’s other runner.
