Cross-Country: Bonduel girls, Witt-Birn boys each take sixth at invite

Troxel, Schairer lead way for teams

IOLA — The Bonduel girls and Wittenberg-Birnamwood boys cross-country teams each turned in sixth-place finishes Tuesday while competing in the T-Bird Invitational at Iola Winter Sports Park.

Bonduel earned a team score of 161 and was led by the 16th-place finish of Kara Troxel in 22 minutes, 32.54 seconds.

Placing in the top 40 for the Bears were Kalleigh Schroeder (23:53.88) and Madison Kurey (24:01.33), taking 35th and 37th, respectively. Breanna Schnell (25:11.28) and Kendra Troxel (25:20.69) capped the team score, placing 60th and 63rd, respectively.

The Witt-Birn boys earned a team score of 176, led by Cole Schairer’s 11th-place finish in 17:57.26.

Wyatt Dickman (19:10.45) and Simon Schairer (19:11.23) came in 28th and 29th, respectively. Ian Resch (20:25.65) and Tommy Bruski (20:29.51) placed 64th and 66th, respectively, to round out the team’s top-five runners.

The Clintonville boys team finished seventh with a score of 178, while Bonduel came in eighth with a point total of 194.

Leading the Truckers on the course was Cameron Mauel (18:36.65), who took 20th. Cody Carrico (19:32.77) placed 39th. Josh Wilson (19:34.81) came in 42nd, and Austin Tosdale (19:42.91) finished 44th. Jesse Wilson (20:05.75) earned 54th to cap the team score.

Carter Kurey (18:07.93) placed 15th to lead the way for Bonduel. Jack Johnson (19:43.17) took 45th, while Karter Schroeder (19:47) and Cooper Uelmen (19:52.23) weren’t far behind, placing 47th and 49th, respectively. Ayden Dunst (20:12.03) finished 60th to cap the team score.

The Marion boys came in 16th, while Gresham/Bowler took 18th.

Isaiah Gueths (21:55.1) led the way for Marion. Jaden Stuhr (22:09.29), Ethan Pockat (22:29.57), Gavin James (25:52.59) and Jack VanKooy (29:18.28) rounded out the five-runner team.

Levi Schick (20:56.69) finished 75th to pace the Gresham/Bowler co-op. Austin Slater (25:34.31), Isaiah Bestul (25:50.44), Zach Young (26:24.51) and Andrew Galland (27:18.24) filled out the team.

Three Menominee Indian boys competed as individuals. Isaiah Moss (19:18.99) led the way, placing 34th. Ashton Corn (21:48.03) and Joshua Besaw (22:33.19) also represented the Eagles.

While only the Bonduel girls earned a team score, several other local teams had individuals competing.

Witt-Birn had four girls run, led by Jenna Stone’s 30th-place finish in 23:41.45. Ruby Nowinsky (24:08.43) came in 40th, while Annika Resch (25:07.22) took 57th. Lauren Dombeck (29:10.85) was the Chargers’ final runner.

Three girls from Clintonville took part in the invitational. Kayla Klemp (22:48) led the way, placing 21st. Jasmine Wilson (25:03.48) and Alli Smejkal (25:32.95) finished 56th and 70th, respectively.

Emma Komanekin was the lone Menominee Indian runner in action, placing 31st in 23:44.05.

Two Gresham/Bowler girls ran, Ireland Jensen (28:46.48) and Maya Thiex (36:26.06).

Kelsey Zillmer (31:59.89) led a trio of Marion girls. Claire Dow (35.15.44) and Hannah Krueger (36:14.83) also competed.
