College Highlights (Sept. 24)

UW-Whitewater

Shawano Community High School graduate Baylie Hansen helped the UW-Whitewater volleyball team improve to 8-0 on the season after a 3-0 mark last week.

Hansen tallied five attack kills, two block assists and a solo block in the team’s sweep of UW-Oshkosh on Sept. 15.

In a win over Concordia on Sept. 18, Hansen totaled six attack kills, five digs and five block assists. In a victory over North Central that same day, the Shawano grad had four digs, a solo block, a block assist and two attack kills.

Bonduel graduate Jessica LaBerge carded an 18-hole round of 93 to help the UW-Whitewater B women’s golf team to a first-place finish at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Invitational on Sept. 16.

Her 93 was good enough for an eighth-place finish as an individual.

Marian

Menominee Indian grad Tehya Pyawasay produced for the Marian University volleyball team during a 4-1 week on the court.

Pyawasay recorded four attack kills in the team’s sweep of Alverno on Sept. 15.

She had three attack kills and two total blocks in a win over Monmouth on Sept. 17. Later that day, the Eagle grad had two total blocks and three attack kills in a victory over Illinois College.

Pyawasay had two more total blocks and an attack kill in a win over Blackburn on Sept. 18. In a setback to Greenville, she totaled three attack kills and served an ace.

North Iowa Area

Oconto Falls graduate Samantha Coron helped the North Iowa Area Community College to a 3-2 record on the court last week.

In a sweep of Southwestern Community College on Sept. 15, Coron totaled 15 assists, seven digs and three attack kills. In a five-set win over the University of Jamestown on Sept. 17, the Panther grad recorded 19 digs, 22 assists, four block assists and 10 attack kills.

In a loss to the North Dakota State College of Science on Sept. 17, Coron posted 18 assists, six digs and two attack kills.

Coron was credited with 23 assists, 19 digs and seven attack kills in the team’s win over Central Lakes College-Brainerd on Sept. 18. In a loss to Bismarck State College that same day, Coron contributed 17 assists, six digs and six attack kills.

Dubuque

Gillett grad Riley Engebretsen posted a time of 31:36.1 while representing the University of Dubuque men’s cross-country team on Sept. 17 at the Bradley University Intercollegiate Championships.

Dubuque came in fourth place as a team.

Bemidji State

Pulaski graduate Taylor Birr played in one match for the Bemidji State volleyball team last week.

Birr recorded two assists in the team’s loss to Sioux Falls on Sept. 18.

Concordia-St. Paul

Pulaski graduate Andrew Egnarski tallied five total tackles in the Concordia University-St. Paul football team’s loss to Sioux Falls on Sept. 18.

Egnarski was credited with four solo tackles and an assisted tackle.

Rockhurst

Shawano grad Averi Vomastic put together two big matches to help the Rockhurst University volleyball team win two matches last week.

In a win over William Jewell on Sept. 16, Vomastic totaled a team-leading 14 attack kills. She also tallied seven digs, a solo block and a block assist.

In a five-set victory over Illinois Springfield on Sept. 18, Vomastic finished with 14 attack kills, 12 digs and a block assist. She also served an ace.

Minnesota Duluth

Pulaski graduate Logan Kobus served as the punter for the University of Minnesota Duluth football team on Sept. 18 against Winona State.

Kobus punted six times for 197 yards for an average of 32.8 yards. His longest punt went 44 yards, and he pinned the opponent inside its 20-yard line once.

UW-River Falls

Shawano grad Crede Timm had an assisted tackle for the UW-River Falls football team in its 71-13 rout of Northwestern (Minnesota).

Timm now has five total tackles through three games.
