College Highlights (Sept. 17)

St. Norbert

Pulaski High School graduate Kendall Karcz was credited with nine total tackles in the St. Norbert football team’s loss to UW-Stout on Sept. 11.

Karcz now has 13 total tackles through the team’s first two games.

UW-Whitewater

Shawano grad Baylie Hansen continued her strong first season for the UW-Whitewater volleyball team with some big matches last week.

In a sweep of Elmhurst on Sept. 7, Hansen recorded six attack kills and two digs.

The Shawano graduate had eight attack kills, three digs and two block assists against Carthage on Sept. 11.

Marian

Menominee Indian graduate Tehya Pyawasay helped the Marian University volleyball team to a 3-0 record last week.

Pyawasay totaled five attack kills in a win over Carleton on Sept. 10. The next day, she recorded five attack kills, four digs and four block assists in a win over St. Mary’s.

The former Eagle had an attack kill, a block assist and a dig in a win over Beloit on Sept. 11.

North Iowa Area

Samantha Coron, an Oconto Falls grad, continued her strong career and helped the North Iowa Area Community College to a 3-2 record on the court last week.

In a loss to Hawkeye Community College on Sept. 8, Coron recorded 15 assists, nine digs and five attack kills.

In a five-set win over Rochester Community and Technical College on Sept. 10, Coron totaled 10 attack kills, 18 digs and 24 assists. In a victory over Iowa Lakes Community College that same day, the Panther grad had 14 assists, dive digs and five attack kills.

In a win over Minnesota State Community and Technical College on Sept. 11, Coron was credited with 21 digs, 17 assists and five attack kills. Later that day, she had 12 assists, nine attack kills and five digs in a loss to Rock Valley College.

Dubuque

Gillett graduate Riley Engebretsen placed 147th while competing for the University of Dubuque men’s cross-country team on Sept. 11.

Engebretsen earned the spot after completing the Luther College All-American Invitational in 25:35.07.

UW-Oshkosh

Oconto Falls grad Mac Winkler carried the ball three times for 12 yards in the UW-Oshkosh football team’s win over Northern Michigan University on Sept. 11.

Oshkosh is now 2-0 on the season.

UW-Eau Claire

Bonduel graduate Isaac Garside caught three passes for 34 yards in the UW-Eau Claire football team’s win over Loras on Sept. 11.

Garside caught passes of 14, 13 and 7 yards.

Bemidji State

Pulaski graduate Taylor Birr has produced for the Bemidji State volleyball team despite the team’s 0-8 start to the fall.

Birr had four assists and a dig in a loss to South Dakota Mines on Sept. 3. She recorded 14 assists and three digs in a setback to MSU Billings on Sept. 3.

The Pulaski grad tallied five assists in a loss to Black Hills State on Sept. 4.

Carroll

Shawano grad Kaleb Lowney was credited with an assisted tackle in his first collegiate football game for Carroll University in the team’s win over Benedictine on Sept. 11.

Carroll won 35-24.

MSU-Moorhead

Gillett graduate Derek Hanson placed 44th in his first collegiate cross-country race for Minnesota State University-Moorhead on Sept. 11.

Hanson earned 44th after completing the course in 21:05.6.

Concordia-St. Paul

Pulaski grad Andrew Egnarski had a huge game on the defensive side of the ball in the Concordia University-St. Paul football team’s win over Upper Iowa on Sept. 11.

Egnarski tallied 11 total tackles in the contest and forced and recovered a fumble. He also was credited with 3½ sacks.

Egnarski’s big day earned him Defensive Player of the Week recognition in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The sophomore has 15 total tackles and four sacks through two games.

Rockhurst

Shawano graduate Averi Vomastic continued her strong start to the season after playing in four matches last week for the Rockhurst University (Missouri) volleyball team.

In a five-set win over California State University-San Bernardino, Vomastic tallied a team-leading 15 attack kills to go along with five digs, two solo blocks and three block assists.

In a setback to Concordia-St. Paul, the Shawano grad again led her team with 14 attack kills. She also had seven digs and two block assists.

Vomastic totaled seven attack kills, seven digs and five block assists in a loss to Central Missouri. She posted 11 attack kills, three digs and three block assists in a loss to Regis (Colorado).
