College Highlights (Oct. 15)

St. Norbert

Pulaski High School graduate Kendall Karcz intercepted four passes and also had two total tackles in the St. Norbert football team’s 68-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran on Oct. 9.

Karcz’s four interceptions were the most in school history since a five-interception day from Bill Van Lanen back in 1957. Karcz intercepted three passes in the first quarter alone.

He returned the four interceptions for a total of 124 yards, including a long return of 71 yards. He returned an interception 53 yards for a score to end the first quarter and then had a 71-yard interception return for another touchdown early in the second quarter.

Fellow Pulaski grad Isaac Hanke also played in the contest, kicking off three times for 166 yards, a 55.3-yard average.

Viterbo

Lauren Herzog, a Gillett grad and current cross-country runner for the Viterbo women’s team, placed 43rd at the Seminole Valley Stampede meet on Oct. 9.

Herzog completed the course in 21 minutes, 11.1 seconds.

Concordia-St. Paul

Pulaski graduate Andrew Egnarski totaled five total tackles and also returned a kickoff 10 yards in the Concordia University-St. Paul football team’s loss to Bemidji State on Oct. 9.

Of his five tackles, four were assisted.

Rockhurst

Shawano grad Averi Vomastic helped the Rockhurst University volleyball team to a 2-1 record last week.

In the team’s loss to Lindenwood on Oct. 5, Vomastic seven attack kills and seven digs.

Vomastic tallied a team-leading 13 attack kills in a five-set win over Southern Indiana on Oct. 8. She also had 18 digs.

In the team’s sweep of McKendree on Oct. 9, the Shawano grad had 10 attack kills, seven digs and three assists.

Minnesota Duluth

Pulaski graduate Logan Kobus punted six times for the University of Minnesota Duluth football team in its win over the University of Mary on Oct. 9.

Kobus’ punts traveled a combined 221 yards for a 36.8-yard average. He pinned the opponent inside its 20-yard line four different times.

UW-Whitewater

Shawano grad Baylie Hansen helped the UW-Whitewater volleyball team to a 4-0 record on the court last week.

In the team’s conference win over UW-La Crosse on Oct. 6, Hansen recorded three attack kills and two digs.

Hansen played in nine total sets during the Washington University National Invitational from Oct. 8-9. Whitewater topped Washington-St. Louis, Illinois Wesleyan and Greenville.

Bonduel grad Jessica LaBerge placed 55th at the WIAC Championships from Oct. 8-10. She finished with a total score of 285, tallying 91s on days one and three and a 103 on day two.

UW-Oshkosh

Oconto Falls graduate Mac Winkler rushed for a touchdown during the UW-Oshkosh football team’s loss to UW-La Crosse on Oct. 9.

Winkler scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter. He finished with 15 rushing yards on five carries.

Fellow Panther grad Kaylee Sadowski competed at the WIAC Championship for the UW-Oshkosh women’s golf team from Oct. 8-10.

Sadowski came in 60th after posting a three-day total of 294. She fired a round of 99 on day one followed by a 97 on day two and 98 on day three.

Marian

Menominee Indian grad Tehya Pyawasay helped the Marian University volleyball team to a 2-2 mark last week.

In a loss to St. Norbert on Oct. 5, Pyawasay tallied four attack kills. In a wain over Beloit that same day, the Eagle grad had eight attack kills.

In the team’s five-set win over Concordia Chicago on Oct. 8, Pyawasay recorded four attack kills and three total blocks. She added five attack kills in a loss to Dominican on Oct. 9.

UW-Eau Claire

Bonduel graduate Isaac Garside caught two passes in the UW-Eau Claire football team’s loss to UW-Stout on Oct. 9.

Garside’s two receptions accumulated 20 yards.

UW-Stevens Point

Oconto Falls grad Dakota Carriveau was credited with two total tackles in the UW-Stevens Point football team’s loss to UW-River Falls on Oct. 9.

Carriveau now has nine total tackles on the season.

Winona State

Gillett graduate and current Winona State women’s cross-country runner Sylvia Hansen took 15th at the Bob Waxlax Invitational on Oct. 7.

Hansen finished the 3.73-mile race in 24:14.10.

MSU-Moorhead

Gillett grad Derek Hanson placed 24th while running for the Minnesota State University-Moorhead men’s cross-country team at the Jimmie Invitational on Oct. 8.

Hanson completed the 8K course in 28:45.3.

Drury

Oconto Falls graduate Brant Rowland represented the Drury University bass fishing team a couple of times over the last two weekends.

He and teammate Cole Breeden teamed up to catch eight fish totaling 14.9 pounds to place 25th at the AFTCO Collegiate Bass Open on Oct. 9 and 10.

Rowland and teammate Brycen Soliday caught three fish totaling 5 pounds, 13 ounces to come in 51st at the Major League Fishing tournament on Oct. 1.

North Iowa Area

Oconto Falls graduate Samantha Coron continued her strong season for the North Iowa Area Community College volleyball team last week across a pair of matches.

In a loss to Northeast Community College on Oct. 6, Coron posted three attack kills, 21 assists and 14 digs.

That same day, Coron recorded 23 assists, six digs and three attack kills in a win over North Platte Community College.
