College Highlights (Oct. 1)

Marian

Menominee Indian High School graduate Tehya Pyawasay recorded four attack kills and a dig in the Marian University volleyball team’s loss to Edgewood on Sept. 21.

On the season, Pyawasay has had 48 attack kills, 14 digs and 18 total blocks across 13 matches and 48 sets played.

North Iowa Area

Oconto Falls grad Samantha Coron continued to stuff the stat sheet for the North Iowa Area Community College volleyball team last week in a 3-2 week on the court.

In a five-set loss to Southeastern Community College on Sept. 22, Coron posted eight attack kills, 27 assists, five service aces and 24 digs.

In a win over Grand View on Sept. 24, the Panther grad had eight attack kills, 18 digs, 16 assists and two aces. That same day, Coron was credited with three attack kills, nine assists and seven digs in a loss to Iowa Central Community College.

Coron totaled 24 digs, 21 assists, two aces and two attack kills in a win over St. Ambrose on Sept. 25. Later that day, Coron had 22 assists, 15 digs and two block assists in a win over Madison College.

Bemidji State

Pulaski graduate Taylor Birr recorded four assists and two digs in the Bemidji State volleyball team’s loss to Wayne State on Sept. 25.

For the season, Birr has accumulated 29 assists and six digs across nine sets played.

Viterbo

Gillett grad Lauren Herzog turned in a 55th-place finish while running for the Viterbo women’s cross-country team at the Carleton Invitational on Sept. 25.

Herzog completed the course in 26 minutes, 2.7 seconds. Viterbo placed sixth as a team.

UW-Eau Claire

Bonduel graduate Isaac Garside racked up 52 yards of offense on just two touches for the UW-Eau Claire football team in its loss to Albion on Sept. 25.

Garside had a 48-yard run and caught a four-yard pass.

Concordia-St. Paul

Pulaski grad Andrew Egnarski was credited with seven total tackles in the Concordia University-St. Paul football team’s loss to Southwest Minnesota State on Sept. 25.

Egnarski had one solo tackle and six assisted tackles. He also had combined on a tackle for loss. His big run help set up one of the team’s touchdowns.

Rockhurst

Shawano graduate Averi Vomastic continued her strong senior season for the Rockhurst University volleyball team across three matches last week.

In a sweep of Ottawa on Sept. 21, Vomastic finished with eight attack kills and 10 digs.

Vomastic recorded five attack kills, seven digs, five block assists and two assists in a loss to Missouri-St. Louis on Sept. 24.

In a bounce back win over Maryville on Sept. 25, the Shawano grad had six attack kills, 11 digs and three block assists.

Minnesota Duluth

Pulaski grad Logan Kobus punted seven times in the University of Minnesota Duluth football team’s loss to Wayne State on Sept. 25.

Kobus averaged 39.9 yards per punt, including a long punt of 51 yards. He pinned the opponent inside their own 20-yard line once.

Central Lakes

Shawano graduate Trace Yeager was credited with two total tackles while playing for the Central Lakes College-Brainerd football team in a win over Mesabi Range College on Sept. 25.

One of the tackles was a solo one, while the other was assisted.

Winona State

Gillett grad Sylvia Hansen turned in a 153rd-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 24 while representing the Winona State women’s cross-country team.

Hansen completed the 6K course in 25:23.9.

MSU Moorhead

Gillett graduate Derek Hanson also competed in the Roy Griak Invitational, placing 212th while running for the Minnesota State University Moorhead men’s team.

Hanson posted a time of 29:04.4 in the 8K race.

UW-Whitewater

Shawano grad Baylie Hansen put together some strong matches during the UW-Whitewater volleyball team’s 3-1 week on the court.

In the team’s first loss of the season to UW-Eau Claire on Sept. 22, Hansen totaled seven attack kills, four digs and two block assists.

Whitewater bounced back by winning the Whitewater Invite on Sept. 24-25. In a sweep of Carthage on Sept. 24, Hansen tallied four attack kills, a dig, a solo block and a block assist.

In a sweep of St. Mary’s on Sept. 25, Hansen had four attack kills, a dig and a block assist. She then recorded five attack kills and three block assists in a sweep of Carroll later that day.

Bonduel graduate Jessica LaBerge tied for 58th while golfing for the UW-Whitewater women’s team during the UW-Whitewater Fall Classic on Sept. 24-25.

LaBerge carded a round of 96 on the first day of the event before posting a 97 on the second day.

St. Norbert

Pulaski graduate Kendall Karcz and Shawano graduate Nathan Krizan each recorded tackles for the St. Norbert football team in its loss to Lakeland University on Sept. 25.

Karcz ended the game with six total tackles, a sack and an interception, which he returned 16 yards. Four of his tackles were solo ones.

Krizan was credited with an assisted tackle.
