Gillett FFA

As the 2023-2024 school year kicked off, so did the hard work and dedication of being in Gillett FFA. The first chapter meeting was held for high school and middle school FFA members. Students began planning about the months ahead and started brainstorming new ways to get involved with FFA.

The first event of the Year was the Fall Leadership Workshop, which took place in Seymour. This workshop is held annually and invites all officers from section eight to gather with other officers to sharpen their skills and learn new things about their position.

The Gillett FFA has always strived to strengthen its community. One way they do this is by showing their appreciation to farmers during harvesting season. The FFA puts on an event every year called “Farmer Appreciation,” where they put together five-gallon pails with glazers donuts, milk and other snacks. Big Iron Auctions sponsored this Year’s Farmer Appreciation. They then deliver the buckets to local farmers and thank them for all their hard work.

FFA members traveled to Madison on Oct. 3 or the World Dairy Expo. The Dairy Cattle Evaluation team consisting of Brynn VanKauwenberg, Caylee Bjelland, and Hope Soper competed. The dairy product evaluation teams of Brody Kohls, Scott Heroux, and Zander Davis competed.

Later that month, nine FFA members had the opportunity to travel to Indianapolis for the 96th National Convention and Expo. The participants would like to thank the Gillett FFA Alumni for helping them with the costs of the trip. They went to multiple sessions and spent time at the Expo Hall gathering information about different companies, colleges, and businesses. They had the opportunity to meet FFA members from all over the country. The members also had a lot of fun at the Lainey Wilson and Dillion Carmicheal concert and the rodeo.

The Gillett FFA finished its annual cheese, meat, fruit, and kringle sale, which helps fund all of the ongoing or new activities and projects the FFA puts on. They are currently working on planning events that will take place this winter, like the yearly Holiday Dinner and activities for FFA week.
