Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Mason Meverden and Ben Wesolowski and Bonduel’s Noah Weier all earned spots on the Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division first team after big spring baseball seasons.

Menominee Indian’s Wendell Waukau Jr., Bonduel’s Easton Reinke and Witt-Birn’s Ian Salvesen all made the all-conference second team. Bonduel’s Bennett Engel and Colin Margelofsky, Menominee Indian’s George Bruette Jr. and Witt-Birn’s Kaden Schmidt, Max Fraaza, Chase Krull and Evan Meverden were all honorable mentions.

Wesolowski posted a .420 batting average and .494 on-base percentage during the season. The senior doubled seven times and had three triples and three homers. He also stole 11 bases.

“After not picking up my glove for two years, it was extra special for me to be able to have the honor of being named all-conference,” said Wesolowski. “At first I played to have fun, but I worked really hard during the season to be able to achieve this goal.”

Meverden finished his junior year with a .469 average and .553 on-base percentage. He doubled four times and stole eight bases while also serving as the team’s go-to pitcher.

“Although being first team is a great accomplishment, it motivates me to not be satisfied with that,” said Meverden. “Individual accomplishments mean something, but I would rather have success as a team. We finished second in conference this year, and winning a conference championship as a team is on the top of the list for next season.”

Weier finished the conference portion of the schedule with a .409 batting average and .435 on-base percentage. The sophomore doubled six times among his 18 hits. He drove in 10 runs, stole seven bases and scored 11 runs.

Weier pitched a team-high 25⅔ innings across eight games. He struck out 27 batters and earned two wins.

“It means a lot. I try to do whatever I can to help the team, and to be on first team shows that the hard work paid off,” said Weier.

“What will motivate me to get better is even though I myself had a good season, the team didn’t meet the expectations we strived for. So it will be the thought of being a better team that will push me as a competitor.”

Salvesen had a .381 average to go along with a strong .506 on-base percentage to make the second team in his sophomore season. He finished with six doubles.

Reinke caught for the Bears this spring. The sophomore recorded a .275 average and .318 on-base percentage. He drove in nine runs on 11 total hits and scored nine runs.

Waukau Jr. turned in a .444 batting average in CWC-East play to earn his spot on the second team. The senior doubled five times and homered twice while driving in eight runs.

“I thought it was pretty special knowing it was my last season as a Menominee Eagle. The amount of memories and hard work that the team and I have put in throughout the past four years will never go unnoticed,” said Waukau. Jr. “As of for me, leaving my high school career on a good note makes me feel very confident going into (Bryant & Stratton College). I can’t wait to see what the collegiate level holds for me.”

Schmidt turned in a .286 batting average and .530 on-base percentage in his senior year for Witt-Birn. He hit three doubles, two triples and one home run, while also swiping seven bases.

Krull hit .378 and got on base at a .510 clip to be named an honorable mention as a junior. He clubbed two doubles, a triple and a homer.

Fraaza posted a .327 average and .507 on-base percentage in his junior year. He doubled three times and hit one homer.

Meverden recorded a .378 average to go along with a .453 on-base percentage. The sophomore doubled three times.

Engel turned in a .276 average and .462 on-base percentage in his senior season to make the honorable mention team. He stole a team-leading eight bases, drove in five runs on eight total hits and scored nine times.

Margelofsky had a .289 batting average and .372 on-base percentage as a sophomore. He scored five runs and tallied 11 total hits.

Bruette Jr. capped his high school career with a .291 batting average in conference play. He doubled five times, homered once and drove in five runs.
