SHAWANO — Shawano came up on the wrong end of a 107-61 Great Northern Conference dual against Lakeland Union on Thursday in Shawano.

The Shawano 200-yard medley relay team of Josh Bergmann, Drew Kane, Carson Cummings and Wylee Springborn opened the night with a second-place finish in 2 minutes, 6.38 seconds. Demetrius Kaquatosh and Michael Dickmann joined Kane and Cummings on the second place-finishing 200 freestyle relay team (1:53.92).

Springborn, Cummings, Bergmann and Jack Reed teamed up to take second in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:06.14.

Individually, Bergmann placed second in the 200 IM (2:32.79) and 100 butterfly (1:08.88), while Springborn came in second in the 50 freestyle (26.13) and 100 freestyle (59.14).

Reed finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:15.92), and Kane was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:24.12).

Chuck-a-Duck fundraiser

During the dual, Shawano also held its first Chuck-a-Duck fundraiser, where fans could buy rubber duckies before trying to toss them into a ring floating in the pool. Any winners were to be awarded half of the money raised.

Shawano team managers set up the event to raise money for pool lifeguard Sarah Hohn, who is dealing with health issues in her family.

Two participants were successful in landing their ducks in the ring, but both chose to donate their winnings. A total of $103 was raised.

Shawano swim coach Jeff Easter hopes to plan the same event for an upcoming meet.
