BOYS BASKETBALL: Gillett easily defeats Coleman, Suring

Gillett dispensed with Coleman 81-56 on Jan. 13 in a game originally scheduled for Jan. 9. Gillett led 5-34 at the half and cruised to victory from there.

Jesse DeBauch led with 26 points, followed by Ben Matczak with 20 and Aydin Franti with 18.

Thursday, Jan. 11

Bonduel

Noah Weier scored 12 points, including two free throws with 10.2 seconds remaining, to lead Bonduel as the Bears downed Iola-Scandinavia 50-49.

Iola-Scandinavia led 28-19 at the break, but Bonduel fought back to win the second half 31-21 and the game.

Bonduel remains atop the Central Wisconsin East Conference with a 6-0 mark. The team is 11-1 overall.

Gillett crushes Suring

Gillett rolled over Suring 67-36 and mood into a three-way tie for first place in the Marinette & Oconto Conference. Gillett, Coleman and Crivitz are 5-1.

Gillett had control of the game from the beginning, leading 38-22 at the half and outscoring their guests 29-14 in the second half.

Jesse DeBauch led the Tigers with 29 points. Aydin Franti scored 15, and Ben Matczak added another 14.

For the Eagles, Michael Bailey was the top scorer with 10 points.

Lena

Lena was no match for Coleman, losing 64-37. Lena dropped to 1-5 in Marinette & Oconto Conference standings and 4-6 overall.

Tigerton defeats Marion

Tigerton handed Marion its first Central Wisconsin North Conference loss of the season with a 62-46 win.

The Tigers are 3-2 in conference action and 7-3 overall. The Mustangs are 3-1 and 9-5, respectively.

Menominee Indian

Menominee Indian fell to 1-4 in the Central Wisconsin East Conference standings with its 71-45 loss to Shiocton.

The Eagles have a record of 1-5 in league play and 2-10 overall.

Oconto Falls

Oconto Falls remains winless in the North Eastern Conference after its 87-41 defeat at the hands of Freedom.

Freedom’s first half total of 51 was enough for the win, as they led 51-20 at the break. A 36-21 second half piled on to the margin of victory.

Alex Haines and Jameson Beaman each scored 10 points for Oconto Falls.

Beaman led the team with seven rebounds, Brady Bruska had three assists, and Emerich Skarban had a pair of steals.

Oconto Falls is 0-8 in league play and 2-10 overall.

Pulaski

The Red Raiders barely challenged De Pere, losing 80-44 in a Fox River Classic Conference game. Pulaski is 3-4 in conference action and 6-5 overall.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood

Wittenberg-Birnamwood lost 67-41 to Weyauwega-Fremont in Central Wisconsin East Conference action. Both teams, along with Shiocton, are 4-2 in league play.

Monday, Jan. 8

Marion

A strong sound half by Manawa powered them over Marion 61-40.

Manawa held a 22-20 edge at the half, but a 39-20 second half proved too much for the Mustangs.

Ryan Malueg led Marion with 12 points, including three triples, with Parker Miller adding 11 and Enea Turrini scoring 10.

Miller led the team with 14 rebounds, and Malueg had 11. Turrini had four assists, and grabbing two steals each were Jackson Krohn, Sam Gueths, Malueg and Miller.
