The Bonduel High School girls volleyball team is hoping for more consistent play in the second year under coach Abby Reinke.

The Bears battled injuries throughout the 2019 season, finishing with a 7-15 overall record, with a 2-4 mark in the Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division. Bonduel returns six starters and five other players with varsity experience from that team, giving Reinke hope for an improved 2020 campaign.

“We were able to compete with some of the top teams in our conference, so with our returning experience, I would like to see us continue to do that and come away with a few more wins,” Reinke said.

Helping lead the way for the Bears will be sophomore hitter Josie Hoffman, who made the all-conference second team as a freshman.

“We had a couple very close games last year that were just lost by a couple mistakes here and there. I think we just have to focus on working out the mistakes and the little things and I think this year will be successful,” said Hoffman, who also is ready to serve as a role model for the team.

Despite only graduating two seniors, Bonduel is still fairly young, with Halea Sporisky and Joanie Wudtke being the only seniors. Sporisky started last year and will serve as a setter this year.

Also back from the starting lineup are juniors Brenna Hertzfeldt, Allaina Robaidek and Kylie Hoffman and sophomore Macy Niles. Hertzfeldt and Hoffman are both hitters, while Robaidek hits and sets for the team. Niles was the libero at the end of the year for the Bears.

Also back with varsity experience and ready to take on bigger roles are juniors Hayley Wolf (defensive specialist) and Nicole Koeller (hitter) and sophomores Abby Stoltenow (hitter) and Nakiyah Henning (setter, hitter).

Possible freshmen or newcomers to the varsity squad could also emerge once the team opens up practice. Volleyball practices can begin on Sept. 7.
