The pitching duo of Noah Beilfuss and Isaac Boldt powered Bonduel to a 4-0 home win over Oconto Falls on Monday.

Beilfuss struck out eight batters over 4 ⅔ innings before Boldt tallied four strikeouts over the final 2 ⅓ innings.

“It’s just confidence in my fielders. I can just throw strikes and have confidence in them (to make plays on balls put in play),” said Beilfuss, who had just four runners reach against him in the contest. “Me and Isaac have really been really working on the mound. Our arms feel pretty good, so we’re just throwing strikes and hoping our fielders back us up.”

Oconto Falls starting pitcher Braden Uelmen turned in a strong effort of his own on the mound, working all six innings and striking out eight batters.

Bonduel scored its first run in the second. Cole Anderson doubled with one out before moving to third on a wild pitch. Brett Margelofsky drove Anderson in with a sacrifice flyout.

The hosts created some breathing room by scoring three times in the fourth frame.

Garrett Engel doubled to start the inning before Boldt singled him home. An error later in the inning put runners on second and third, and Kyle Hanus scored courtesy runner Carson Robaidek with a groundout. Anderson followed with a single that scored Isaac Banker, who reached on the error.

“I was hitting my spots; they were just squaring up the ball. They’re a good hitting team,” said Uelmen. “Some things on defense we have to clean up, too. I know we had an error on a flyball that could have saved a run or two.”

Oconto Falls’ scoring opportunities were limited.

Mitchell Manns singled with one out in the first inning and later moved up to second on a groundout, but Oconto Falls couldn’t cash in as another another groundout ended the frame. Grant Bouche made it to second after a Bonduel error in the third but never advanced.

Manns singled with one out in the fourth before Uelmen walked, but Beilfuss struck out the next two batters to end that threat. Graeson Pankratz greeted Boldt with a single in the fifth, but Boldt struck out the next batter.

Oconto Falls got Connor Peetz and Uelmen to second and third base after two Bonduel errors in the seventh, but Boldt recorded a strikeout and induced a popup to end the game.
