Remnants of corn stalks lay near where an interesting new wedding venue broke ground Aug. 23 in the village of Pulaski.

The Barn at Sunset Acres is being touted as a state-of-the art facility that will combine the rustic feel of a barn wedding with modern equipment that will make a couple’s special day seem like the best of their lives. Completion is expected in summer 2022.

The facility will use reclaimed barn wood on the exterior, while the interior will include a bridal suite, groom’s pad, a private family room and a banquet hall for up to 375 people, complete with catering kitchen. There will also be cottages available for wedding parties to stay at, providing convenience for when the big day arrives, according to partner Lauren Cusack. The 12-acre property at 451 N. St. Augustine St. will have a pond, gardens and other green space for photo opportunities.

“We’re really creating a venue experience and destination versus just a wedding day,” Cusack said. “After your wedding or your event, you’re able to rent them out. There’s going to be six initially, but they’ll be for family, friends, guests, etc.”

The venue will be able to host indoor and outdoor ceremonies, according to Cusack.

“There’s a lot of space to work with that makes it unique, as well,” she said.

Steve Fischer, one of the partners for Sunset Acres, noted that Pulaski is an ideal location for a wedding venue, and the village hasn’t had one in the vicinity for about 20 years.

“Pulaski just needed it and has needed it for a long time,” Fischer said. “I think it’s a great, small community and is welcoming. It’s a growing community.”

Sunset Acres will provide a country backdrop but still allow for weddings to have all the traditions and trimming, according to Fischer. He noted wedding parties will have the run of the 12 acres for the full day, not just a couple of hours for the wedding ceremony.

“It’s going to create the country wedding, but it’s going to bring in an elegant feel to it, as well,” Fischer said. “It’s going to be a state-of-the-art venue to compete with anything in the state.”

Fischer said he understands the interest in old barns as a site and symbol for matrimony, but he believes couples shouldn’t have to decide between the past and the future when figuring out their special day, which is why the facility is being built from scratch.

“In the old barns, I don’t know that you can give the elegant feel out of the barn like you can if you build it,” Fischer said. “We really want that. It’s going to be a barn, but it’s going to be an over-the-top barn with modern amenities that we couldn’t get with a traditional barn. It’s a lot of work to renovate those old barns.”

Even though ground has just broke, the Barn at Sunset Acres is already accepting reservations for summer 2022 and beyond into 2023. Details about the facility can be found at www.barnatsunsetacres.com.
