Senior hoping to help Hawks to big goals

The Shawano Community High School girls golf team has high expectations for its fall season, and senior Teghan Kristof hopes to help the team accomplish some of its goals.

The senior placed second on the Hawks at the first two Bay Conference meets of the season. She carded a nine-hole round of 45 to place fourth overall at the first meet and posted a 47 to claim fifth overall at the second meet.

Kristof again placed second for Shawano during the Thunder Invite on Aug. 17, carding an 18-hole round of 96.

The senior was third on the team at the third conference meet with a round of 45. Kristof was back up to second on the team at the fourth Bay meet with a round of 49.

She is coming off a junior season in which she made the all-conference first team.

Q: When did your interest in golf begin?

A: My interest in golf began when I was a freshman. I had no interest in it beforehand and I did not know anything about it.

Q: What is your favorite part about the golf season?

A: My favorite part about the season is just getting to spend almost every day with my teammates.

Q: What has golf taught you over the years?

A: Golf has taught me to be a very patient person and that you can always improve.

Q: What is your favorite course to play at, and why?

A: My favorite course to play at is Shawano Lake because I have the most experience there and it is where I tend to shoot my lowest scores.

Q: You’ve turned in several strong individual finishes already this season. What’s been working well for you when competing so far?

A: You cannot let your last shot get to you; it can throw off the rest of the game. Just always keep your head up and focus on your next shot. Having a strong short game helps as well.

Q: As the season continues on, what needs to happen for you and your team to win a Bay Conference title?

A: Turning in three second places as a team now just coming in a few strokes short, we can all improve on certain parts of our game, especially short game. If each of us can knock a few strokes off our games, we can be top the remaining meets.”

Q: As a senior, how do you help lead the rest of the team?

A: As a senior and being the oldest on the team I must help lead them to do the right things and be a strong role model for them.

Q: Before a meet starts, do you or the team have any routines or rituals you go through?

A: We talk each other up in the morning, so we are all in the best mood and confident for the meet. Also, on the way to meets we listen to music to hype us up.

Q: What’s your favorite memory of competing on the Shawano girls golf team?

A: There are a lot of great memories with the girls I have played with over the years, but the best memory was when coach thought the battery was dead in the van to go home but he was just using the wrong key.

Q: Favorite movie, TV show and musical artist?

A: Movie — “Roped.” TV show — “Below Deck.” Musical artist — Morgan Wallen.

Q: Name one thing about yourself that not many people know.

A: I am suffering from a new found health issue.

Q: What are some things you hope to accomplish after graduating high school?

A: Completing further schooling, and possibly playing athletics. Also finding a job in the field I want to go into.
