Area wrestlers place well at big-time meets

Witt-Birn’s Gauderman 2nd, multiple wrestlers come in 3rd

Seven area wrestling teams participated in big events on Dec. 29-30, with several wrestlers placing.

Bonduel, Wittenberg-Birnamwood, Shawano, Lena and Suring/Gillett all took part in the Lourdes On the Water Classic in Oshkosh. Pulaski and Oconto Falls each participated in the Bi-State Classic in La Crosse.

Bonduel

Bonduel turned in the best finish among area teams at the classic, accumulating 142 points to place 14th overall.

Tyson Bogacz led the Bears with a third-place finish at the 182-pound weight class. He finished the classic with a 5-1 mark, winning two decisions, two major decisions and once by pin.

Jaxon Bogacz (106) and Colin Fischer (145) earned sixth-place finishes in their weight classes for the Bears.

Bogacz went 4-3 at the classic, with all four wins coming by pin. Fischer finished 6-3, with six wins by pin.

Parker Perry earned 12th place at 170 pounds. He went 3-4, winning by major decision, sudden victory and pin.

Matthew Walenta (132), Jose Lagunes (152), Donovan Vigue (160) and Michael Keiler (195) also earned wins for the Bears at the classic.

Witt-Birn

Witt-Birn came in 15th as a team after scoring 141½ points.

David Gauderman led the Chargers with a second-place finish at 220 pounds. Gauderman finished 4-1, winning two decisions and twice by pin before falling 2-1 in the first-place match.

Devin Wudtke was Witt-Birn’s other place-winner, taking ninth at 126 pounds. Wudtke finished with a 4-2 record, with two wins by pin, one by technical fall and one by decision.

Cardell Long (106), Ben Miller (113), Easton Davis (120), Luca Pelusi (132), Andres Sanchez (138), Chase Kitsemble (152), Owen Schultz (160), Bryson Schmid (170), Braeden Groshek (182) and Dominic Weso (285) all picked up wins for the Chargers at the classic.

Shawano

Shawano scored 135½ points at the classic to tie for 17th place.

Caden Young placed third at 170 pounds to lead the Hawks. Young went 6-1, with two wins by pin, two by technical fall, one decision and one sudden victory.

Carsen Herm placed sixth at 152 pounds for Shawano. Herm finished 4-3, with all four wins by pin.

Drake Herm came in ninth at 138 pounds. He went 5-2, with two wins by pin and one by decision, technical fall and major decision.

Brady Jones took 12th place at 285 pounds with a 2-4 mark. His wins were by pin and in ultimate tiebreaker.

Dane Hodkiewicz (106), Kody Popelka (132), Conner Chelberg (182), Mason Theis (195) and Wahkeenyah Waukau (220) all earned wins at the classic for the Hawks.

Lena

Lena tied for 45th place with 56 points.

Dylan Comins (120) and Sam Marquardt (138) earned 11th-place finishes for the Wildcats.

Comins finished with a 3-3 record, with two wins by technical fall and one by major decision. Marquardt went 4-3, with two decision wins, one major decision win and a pin.

Sam Peterson (106), Lucas Heimke (132), Colt Miller (195) and Dylan Urbanek (285) also earned wins at the classic for Lena.

Suring/Gillett

Suring/Gillett scored 23½ points at the two-day classic to take 66th place.

Trent VanDenElzen took 12th at 160 pounds to lead the co-op. He finished with a 5-4 record, with two pins, two major decisions and a technical fall.

Carter Whisman (182) also picked up wins for the co-op at the classic.

Pulaski

The Pulaski boys team placed 12th at the Division 1 level in La Crosse, scoring 107½ points.

Trenton Gibbons led the Red Raiders with a third-place finish at 182 pounds. Gibbons finished 6-1, with four wins by pin and two by decision.

Ethan Eggert placed fifth at 120 pounds for Pulaski with a 6-2 mark. Eggert had three wins by pin, two by major decision and one by decision.

Broc Ambrosius took 12th place at 113 pounds. He went 3-4, with wins by technical fall, major decision and decision.

Conner Nooyen (126), Colin Pratt (132), Cole Gorecki (138), Mason Taylor (145), Griffin Vanlannen (152) and Chase Woosencraft (170) also earned wins at the classic for Pulaski.

Pulaski also had two girls wrestle in La Crosse. Leah Kapla and Laci Lemke each took first place with 3-0 marks.

Kapla won twice by pin and once by decision. Lemke won by pin, decision and major decision.

Oconto Falls

The Oconto Falls boys came in 13th at the Division 2 level of the Bi-State Classic, scoring 77½ points.

Cole Bozile led the Panthers with a third-place finish at 132 pounds. He went 6-1, with four decision wins, a technical fall win and win by pin.

Garrett Ganter finished 5-2 to take seventh at 106 pounds. Ganter won two decisions, one major decision, one sudden victory and one ultimate tiebreaker.

Hunter Bozile (126), Parker Peterson (138) and Nick Trepanier (182) also picked up wins for the Panthers.

Two Oconto Falls girls also wrestled in La Crosse.

Jocelin Martinez and Faith Thurman each took third place with 1-2 marks. Martinez won by medical forfeit and Thurman won by decision.
