Area volleyball teams learn postseason seeds

Witt-Birn earns No. 1 seed

Area high school volleyball teams learned their postseason fates when the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association released its tournament brackets Wednesday night.

Division 1

Shawano is the lone area team that will compete in Division 1. The Hawks earned a No. 5 seed and will travel to take on fourth-seeded Waupaca in its first playoff match Tuesday.

The winner of the match will advance to take on top-seeded Antigo on Oct. 22.

Division 2

Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Oconto Falls will each compete in Division 2.

Witt-Birn secured a No. 1 seed for the postseason. The Chargers earned a bye and will await the winner of a playoff clash between fourth-seeded Nekoosa and fifth-seeded Adams-Friendship. Witt-Birn’s first postseason match will be played Oct. 22.

Oconto Falls also earned a bye after a strong regular season, but already knows its first playoff opponent. The second-seeded Panthers will host third-seeded Peshtigo on Oct. 22. Oconto is the top seed in the bracket and will start the postseason taking on No. 4 Marinette.

Division 3

Gillett and Bonduel both earned No. 3 seeds and byes in Division 3.

Gillett will take on second-seeded Coleman on Oct. 22, with the winner advancing to take on either top-seeded Wabeno/Laona or fourth-seeded Crivitz in an Oct. 24 regional final.

Bonduel will travel to face second-seeded Iola-Scandinavia on Oct. 22. The other three teams in the regional pod are No. 1 Rosholt, No. 4 Manawa and No. 5 Shiocton.

Division 4

Suring, Lena and Marion are all part of the same Division 4 regional pod.

Suring picked up a No. 2 seed and has a bye to start the postseason. The Eagles will host third-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas Academy on Oct. 22.

Lena earned a No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 Marion on Tuesday. The winner will advance to a regional semifinal against top-seeded Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy on Oct. 22.

Not competing

Five area volleyball teams — Clintonville, Menominee Indian, Gresham, Bowler and Tigerton — were not part of the postseason brackets.
