Oconto Falls Superintendent Dean Hess confirmed May 13 that a 4-year-old kindergarten class section will be held at the new Encompass Child Care Center starting this fall.

During the monthly school board meeting, Hess said a 4K class will be held at Encompass during the morning hours, and the teacher — a school district employee — will move to Abrams Elementary School for an afternoon session.

“This is based on the data that we’ve had years past and also the data that we have coming in right now for registrations,” Hess said.

The district hired the kindergarten teacher now rather than wait until July or August, he said. The logistics are still being worked out.

“We’re currently working with our internal people to try to develop a list of questions and answers,” Hess said. “As you can imagine, there’s a lot of planning that goes into this from the hiring process, placement decisions of 4K students, transportation, coordination of classrooms, tech, and all kinds of stuff.”

Registration for 4-year-old kindergarten classes is still underway for the 2024-25 school year. Information and registration forms can be found at the district website, www.ofpanthers.com.
