Gresham’s Hannah Cerveny and Valarie Cerveny, Bonduel’s Allaina Robaidek and Lena’s Max Beyer all played in 45th annual Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Associated All-Star Games on June 29 and 30. All games were played at JustAgame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells.

The Cerveny girls played on the Division 5 girls game on the North team. The team was defeated 68-51.

Valarie Cerveny made a pair of free throws in the first quarter, while Hannah Cerveny made two free throws in the third quarter.

“I was so thankful that I was chosen to play on the WBCA All-Star D5 North team,” said Hannah Cerveny. “It was such an amazing experience, and I had a blast. I made new friends, and it was so special that I got to experience it all with my cousin Valarie. It was definitely very special for me to be able to play in that game for my last high school game.”

“Was really cool to kind of have like a second last high school game, it was a bittersweet moment,” said Valarie Cerveny. “After seeing one of my brothers and one of my sisters play in the games as well, one of my goals for the season was to make the all-star team.”

The teams spent time on the practice court in the couple days leading up to the game, but also had plenty to do when not playing.

The teams stayed at the Great Wolf Lodge and got to swim at a waterpark before eating at Buffalo Phil’s. After dinner, teams continued to bond.

The all-stars got to enjoy jet boat rides the following day, along with a tour on the river and more swimming at a waterpark. The night before the games, there was a banquet to recognize the all-stars and the money that was raised for the MACC (Midwest Athletes against Childhood Cancer) Fund.

“Our team was so close, we got along so well,” said Valarie Cerveny. “From day one it was like we knew each other forever, it was so fun.”

“The actual game was super fun and I had a great time,” said Hannah Cerveny. “It was a really awesome experience to play against some of the best players in the state.”

Robaidek played in the Division 4 game on the North team.

Robaidek’s team lost 63-54, but the Bonduel grad scored nine points. She knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter and then converted an and-one in the third quarter.

“Being surrounded by amazing girls really put a highlight on my career,” said Robaidek. “The amazing friends I made just topped the experience and made it a memory I will truly cherish forever.

“Playing with/against girls with such amazing talent really opened my eyes to the world of Wisconsin basketball. It’s honestly one of the greatest and most hard-working groups of women out there. It was an honor to be included in such an amazing group of girls.”

Beyer was on the Division 5 boys red team that earned a 99-88 win on June 30.

“It was a huge honor to play with all of the guys and get to go out one last time,” said Beyer.

Beyer scored eight points in the contest to help his team to victory.

“It was awesome playing with and against everyone — such great talent and it was definitely a memory I’ll never forget,” said Beyer.
