SHAWANO — Three law enforcement officers were injured Friday while arresting a man who fled from the emergency room at ThedaCare Medical Center, according to a criminal complaint.

Charges were filed Tuesday against Jesse J. Warrington, 30, of Shawano.

He faces three felony counts of battery to a law enforcement officer for allegedly injuring a state trooper, a Shawano police officer and a Shawano County sheriff’s deputy.

He is also charged with a felony count of harassment of a police animal for allegedly injuring a sheriff’s department K-9 during the incident.

Authorities received a call from ThedaCare around 9:30 a.m. that a man identified as Warrington had torn out his IV tube and run out the door of the emergency room.

Warrington had been arrested earlier in the morning for operating while impaired and had a probation and parole warrant for his arrest.

Warrington was located on South Lincoln Street where, according to the complaint, he tackled the state trooper and refused to get off him. A Taser was used but apparently had no effect.

Warrington continued to struggle with the trooper and a city police officer, who was attempting to handcuff him when the sheriff’s department K-9 unit arrived.

The dog bit Warrington’s right arm, and Warrington grabbed the dog and began squeezing him near the mouth, according to the complaint.

Warrington allegedly continued resisting the three officers until he was finally subdued and taken back to ThedaCare.

The officers sustained multiple scrapes and abrasions during the scuffle, according to the complaint, and the trooper reported back pain.

Warrington could face a maximum six years in prison and $10,000 fine on each of each count of battery to a law enforcement officer, if convicted.

He could also face 3½ years and a $10,000 fine for harassment of a police animal.

He is also charged with a misdemeanor count of resisting or obstructing an officer.

Warrington was ordered held on a $25,000 cash bond by Judge William Kussel Jr. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Thursday.
