Athlete Profile: Lane Schultz

BOWLER — Every high school basketball team loves having players who are scrappy and aren’t afraid to mix it up with bigger and taller opponents. Lane Schultz is that player for the Bowler High School boys basketball team.

While averaging just under 10 points a game, Schultz also leads the team in rebounds (over six a game) despite measuring in at a few inches below six feet.

Youth Swim: WASP places fourth at Clintonville meet

CLINTONVILLE — The Wittenberg Area Swim Program scored 1,171 points among its 21 swimmers to finish fourth at the 13-team Groundhog Meet on Saturday.

Kelsie Davis and Faith Resch led WASP with three first-place finishes each, while Lily Metropulos, Kalee Gilmeister and Bella Hegewald had two each.

Rylee Crick and Reese Dickman each had one first-place finish.

Wrestling: Chargers take control of CWC

WITTENBERG — The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School wrestling team earned a 39-36 dual win over Bonduel on Thursday, taking control of the Central Wisconsin Conference in the process.

Thursday’s matchup had all the makings of a classic, with both teams boasting perfect conference dual records coming in. Despite Witt-Birn only winning one of the six non-forfeited weight classes, it was enough to edge Bonduel.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Clintonville 67

Oconto Falls 55

Clintonville used a 18-2 run in the second half to pull away from Oconto Falls in a North Eastern Conference matchup on Friday in Oconto Falls.

Aiden Polzin and Nathan Morse led Clintonville on the court, tallying 23 and 19 points, respectively. Cameron Mauel chipped in 15 points.

Morse hit three 3-pointers, while Polzin knocked down two. Clintonville was also efficient from the free-throw line, making 15 of its 21 attempts.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood took control of the Central Wisconsin Conference with a tight dual win over Bonduel on Thursday in Wittenberg. Both team held perfect conference dual records coming into the match.

Menominee Indian 67

Gresham 46

Menominee Indian pulled away in the second half to claim a Central Wisconsin Conference crossover victory over Gresham on Tuesday in Keshena.

Menominee Indian’s Mimi Beaulieu-Morgan knocked down six 3-pointers and finished the game with 35 points. Alyssa Corn and Senihseah Wayka each chipped in eight points, while Alezaha King had seven.

Menominee Indian outscored Gresham 36-16 in the second half.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bonduel 57

Iola-Scandinavia 39

Bonduel cruised to a Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division victory over Iola-Scandinavia on Monday in Bonduel.

Kara Troxel and Breanna Schnell each scored in double figures for Bonduel, scoring 15 and 11 points, respectively. Schnell also pulled down seven rebounds.

Kylie Hoffman tallied nine points, Allaina Robaidek contributed eight points and eight assists and Josie Hoffman had seven points and eight rebounds.

Athlete Profile: Kaeden Miller

TIGERTON — While the wins have eluded the Tigerton High School boys basketball team this winter, that hasn’t stopped junior Kaeden Miller from piling up the points.

Miller is averaging about 20 points per game to go along with four rebounds and two assists.

The junior tallied over 19 points in six of the team’s first seven games. Over that span, he hit four 3-pointers in a game three different times.

WRESTLING

Moegenburg, Esker help Witt-Birn place third

Two Wittenberg-Birnamwood wrestlers won their weight classes to help the team to a third-place finish at the Merrill Challenge on Saturday.

Wyatt Esker (145) and Chad Moegenburg (126) were the Chargers that took first, each posting 4-0 records after starting the day with byes. Esker won two matches by pin and two by major decision, while Moegenburg won by forfeit, fall, major decision and a decision.

Oakland City

Bowler High School graduate Reanne Kietlinski helped the Oakland City University women's basketball team to a pair of wins over the past week.

Kietlinski scored 16 points and grabbed four rebounds over 22 minutes in a win over Central Christian College on Jan. 4. She also tallied four assists, two blocks and a steal.

In another win over Central Christian on Jan. 3, Kietlinski scored 12 points in 27 minutes of game action. She also recorded four rebounds, three assists and a steal.
