Youth Swim: Four WASP swimmers turn in strong finishes at state meet

BROWN DEER — Four Wittenberg Area Swim Program swimmers competed in the 12-and-under Single Age State Meet on Dec. 14-15.

Rylee Crick turned in the top individual finish for WASP, placing third in the 100-yard breaststroke while competing in the 9-year-old division. Crick, who competed in three total events, also came in sixth in the 50 breaststroke.

Kelsie Davis and Reese Dickman represented WASP in the 11-year-old division.

Davis competed in six events, placing in the top 15 in each one. Dickman earned two top-15 finishers while competing in three total events.

Witt-Birn wins Battle of the Fox

Wittenberg-Birnamwood had five wrestlers place first to help the team win the Battle of the Fox on Saturday in Appleton.

Damien Wudtke (106), Pierson Potrykus (113), Chad Moegenburg (126), Bryze Zoromski (138) and David Gauderman (195) were the Witt-Birn wrestlers that placed first after undefeated days on the mat.

Wrestling: Witt-Birn blanks Menominee Indian in CWC dual

WITTENBERG — The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School wrestling team dominated Menominee Indian from beginning to end, earning a shutout Central Wisconsin Conference dual win on Thursday.

The Chargers finished with 10 pins and won 81-0.

Chad Moegenburg opened the night on the mat for Witt-Birn, winning the 126-pound weight class with a first-period pin over Menominee Indian’s Emma Komanekin.

Witt-Birn’s Austin Worzalla and Menominee Indian’s Joe Perez were next to take the mat at 132 pounds.

Bonduel 60

Shiocton 37

Bonduel rolled to a Central Wisconsin-Conference-East Division win in Shiocton on Friday.

Allaina Robaidek and Kara Troxel each scored 14 points for Bonduel, while Troxel also tallied six steals.

Breanna Schnell added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Kylie Hoffman totaled nine points, eight rebounds and four steals for the Bears. Madison Kurey finished with nine rebounds and four steals.

Luxemburg-Casco 41

Clintonville picked up a North Eastern Conference victory over Luxemburg-Casco on Thursday in Clintonville.

Erin Viergutz scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Clintonville on the court. Selina Torrez contributed 12 points, while Jordan Lehman had 10 and Elly Arndt nine.

Bonduel 56

Gillett 44

The duo of Kara Troxel and Allaina Robaidek helped Bonduel pick up a nonconference win over Gillett on Tuesday in Bonduel.

Troxel scored 29 points to lead the way, while Robaidek added 15. Troxel scored 18 first-half points and Robaidek 13 as the Bears built a 37-23 halftime lead.

Athlete Profile: Allen Jobe

TIGERTON — With a new coach running the show, the Tigerton High School boys basketball team has leaned a bit more on its three seniors. Allen Jobe is one of those seniors, and he is enjoying the changes that coach Kent Wheeles has introduced this season.

Along with helping serve as a leader, Jobe also fills up the stat sheet when on the court. On the offensive end, he averages about 10 points a game.

In the past, Jobe did most of his work on offense around the basket, but he has been encouraged to try and make an impact from behind the 3-point arc, too.

Shawano places second at invitational

Shawano had several wrestlers finish near the top of their weight classes to earn second place as a team at the Brillion Invitational on Saturday. Shawano earned 276 points, behind only Brillion's 366.

Noah Jones (138), Ben Carroll (152), Keith Tourtillott (220) and Nick Kohn (285) all placed first to lead Shawano.

Shawano came up on the wrong end of a high-scoring clash at Waupaca on Friday.

Johnny Dillenburg recorded a hat trick to lead Shawano on the offensive end. Andrew Puissant and Ryan Wegenke added a goal each.

Wegenke was also credited with two assists on the night. Goalie Caleb Davids made 33 saves.

Bonduel toppled Shiocton in a competitive Central Wisconsin Conference dual on Thursday in Bonduel.

Jakob Froemming (152) earned Bonduel’s only pin of the night. Jayson Toellner (132) won by technical fall, while Max Sokolski (145) claimed a major decision win.
