Gillett 63

NEWCHAA 42

Gillett knocked off Northeast Wisconsin Christian Homeschool Athletic Association in a matchup on Dec. 30 in Gillett.

Ben Matczak knocked down three 3-pointers and led Gillett with 21 points. Devin Waranka added 10 points.

Brandon DeBauch tallied nine points for the Tigers, while Austin VandeCorput had eight. Bradin Bjelland chipped in six points.

Gresham 44

Bonduel's Carson Robaidek scored 24 of his 29 points in the second half to help Bonduel pull away from Gresham in a Central Wisconsin Conference crossover matchup on Dec. 30 in Gresham.

Robaidek knocked down 10 field goals, three of which were 3-pointers. He also made six free throws.

Green Bay can clinch No. 1 seed with win over Chicago

A month or so ago, the week 17 matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears didn’t appear to be one that would have a lot of eyeballs on it outside of Packers and Bears fans.

But because the Packers are trying to capture the top seed in the NFC and a rejuvenated Bears team also has a shot of reaching the postseason, the clash might be the most watched game of the final week of the regular season.

History

The Packers lead the series 100-95-6, including a 41-25 triumph on Nov. 29. The Packers are 9-1 in their last 10 trips to Soldier Field, with Chicago’s lone win coming in 2018.

Oconto Falls girls basketball team's rally falls short

The Oconto Falls High School girls basketball team showed fight and resiliency while trying to rally past New Holstein in a nonconference matchup on Dec. 30 in Oconto Falls. Despite their efforts, the Panthers came up on the wrong end of a 57-46 final.

“It’s been kind of frustrating for us,” said first-year Oconto Falls coach Tim Solarek. “We seem to miss a lot of layups. That’s kind of been our M.O. the last few games. We work on them every day in practice, so I guess we just have to keep working on them.”

Ball drop: Wisconsin football team wins Duke's Mayo Bowl, breaks trophy

The Wisconsin Badgers captured the Duke's Mayo Bowl and the trophy that came along with it.

And then they broke it.

While dancing around to celebrate his team's 42-28 victory over Wake Forest on Dec. 30, quarterback Graham Mertz dropped the football-shaped piece of Lenox crystal, leaving it shattered on the floor of the locker room after it fell off its base.

“We just wanted everybody to have a piece of that trophy,” Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst joked.

That would seem appropriate.
