Gillett 3

STAA 1

Gillett rallied from a set down to top St. Thomas Aquinas Academy in a Marinette & Oconto Conference match in Gillett on Tuesday. The Tigers won by scores of 22-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-20.

Grace Wickman posted 11 attack kills and two blocks for Gillett, while Sophie Horsens had 10 attack kills, 11 assists and three aces. Aubrey DeBauch chipped in five attack kills.

Stockbridge 0

Gresham eased past Stockbridge in a nonconference match Tuesday in Gresham. The Wildcats won by scores of 25-22, 25-12, 25-19.

Gresham was celebrating its five seniors — Brooklyn Hoffman, Jayden Jensen, Jada James, Karisa Nietzer and Monique Terrio — and each one of the athletes played a role in the victory.

NBA: Giannis looks to improve as Bucks’ leader this season

MILWAUKEE — Last season’s loss to Toronto in the Eastern Conference finals stung Giannis Antetokounmpo.

So much so that the NBA MVP admitted it took several days for him to be able to sleep at night after he and the Milwaukee Bucks blew a 2-0 lead against the eventual NBA champion Raptors.

Antetokounmpo said his priority during the offseason was to become a better leader, both on and off the court.

Shawano 1

Shawano dropped a Bay Conference Tournament road match to Green Bay East on Monday.

Chris Etori scored the Hawks' goal in the 16th minute off an assist from Michael Klement. Shawano goalies JJ Pyatskowit and Kaden Cox finished with 12 and three saves, respectively.

Shawano will host Menasha in the second round of the tournament on Thursday.

Athlete Profile: Brooke Thiex

BOWLER — Conference volleyball play is pretty much wrapped up, and the postseason is right around the corner. Brooke Thiex hopes to help Bowler put together a postseason run and continue the team’s surge from the second half of the regular season.

Thiex, a senior, primarily sets up her teammates, but she has filled several other areas of the stat sheets this season for the Panthers. She is a strong defender and server, and she posts several kills during most matches.

OCONTO FALLS — The high school volleyball season is winding down, and teams are turning to their upperclassmen for leadership as they hope to make postseason runs. Samantha Coron is one of those leaders for Oconto Falls.

The senior, who serves as one of the team’s setters, but does a little bit of everything for the Panthers, has been on the varsity team since she was a freshman.

NFL: Packers top Lions on last-second field goal

GREEN BAY — Mason Crosby kicked a 23-yard field goal as time expired to give the Green Bay Packers a big 23-22 NFC North victory over the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field on Monday.

It was the third field goal made by Crosby in a game that also saw Lions’ kicker Matt Prater make five field goals.

After the game-winning kick went through the uprights, Crosby got to experience his first Lambeau leap, with assist into the stands from long snapper Hunter Bradley.

Football: Bonduel rallies for wild win over Witt-Birn

BONDUEL — The Bonduel High School football team was playing its final Central Wisconsin Conference-Large Division game ever. The Bears made it a memorable one, rallying from a 19-point halftime deficit for a wild 21-19 victory over Wittenberg-Birnamwood on Friday.

Volleyball: Witt-Birn has strong showing at invite

EDGAR — The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School volleyball team posted a 3-1 record at the Edgar Invite on Saturday.

Witt-Birn topped Rib Lake (25-11, 25-11) before losing to Auburndale (12-25, 25-22, 15-9). The Chargers bounced back with wins over Bruce (25-10, 25-4) and Edgar (25-22, 25-21)

Marissa Groshek led Witt-Birn with eight attack kills against Rib Lake, while Abi Fraaza had seven. McKenna Metropulos led the team with 15 assists, while Elizabeth Muscha had six aces.

Volleyball: Falls finishes 3rd at own invite

OCONTO FALLS — The Oconto Falls High School volleyball team earned a 4-1 record to take second place at the Oconto Falls Panther Invite on Saturday.

Oconto Falls topped Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran (26-24, 25-22), Kewaunee (25-23, 26-24) and Freedom (29-27, 18-25, 15-12) in pool play. In bracket play, the Panthers lost to Denmark (25-13, 25-23), but bounced back with a win over N.E.W. Lutheran (27-25, 25-13) in the third-place match.
