Bay Conference Championship

Shawano’s girls cross country runners earned first place on the UW-Green Bay course, with four top 10 finishes.

Bailey Hendricks finished in second place in 20:33.2. She was joined by Adalyn Barkley in fifth place in 21:10.7, Maci Beyer in eighth place in 21:49.3 and Mikelah Powers in 10th place in 21:58. Right behind this quartet was Anabelle Schroeder, who finished in 11th place in 22:04.7.

Teagan Powers finished in 27th place, and Evelyn Kuehl was 32nd.

Trapping seasons open around Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds trappers to prepare for the opening of many furbearer trapping seasons across the state.

The first trapping seasons of the fall opened Oct. 19. Additional seasons for other species and zones will continue to open throughout the fall. Trappers are encouraged to double-check season dates, trapping regulations and ensure they have all required licenses before heading out.

Luxemburg-Casco Spartan Invite

Shawano went 3-2 at the Luxemburg-Casco Spartan Invite, losing its first two matches but winning the final three.

The Hawks lost 2-0 to Kimberly and 2-1 to Pewaukee. Wins for Shawano were 2-0 over Appleton East, 2-1 over Kaukauna and 2-0 over Pewaukee.

Bonduel is perfect in Packerland

Bonduel 48, Sturgeon Bay 20

Bonduel went undefeated in the Packerland Conference following their 48-20 win over Sturgeon Bay.

The Bears ended the regular season at 7-0 in league play and 8-1 overall.

With a 7-0 lead after the first quarter, Bonduel broke the game open with a 28-point second quarter to take a 35-7 lead at the half. Each team added 13 points to their total in the second half.

Pulaski soccer team shuts out De Pere

Pulaski 4, De Pere 0

Pulaski ended its regular season with a 4-0 shutout of De Pere to conclude with a 4-4-1 mark in the Fox River Classic Conference.

Hudson Schultz connected on two of the goals for the Red Raiders, while Tate Gerth and Maddox McKeefry each had one.

Assists were credited to Colin Tackmeier, Gerth, Deegan Lambert and Parker Sanders.

Josh Roth played 60 minutes in the goal and had five saves. Jonah Drews played the other 2o minutes, but De Pere had no shots on goal during his time in the net.

Shawano soccer team breaks into state’s top 10

Shawano’s boys soccer team is ranked No. 8 in Division 3 in Wisconsin, according to the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association.

The Hawks posted an 11-5-2 record to earn the distinction.

Green Bay Preble 5, Pulaski 1

The Red Raiders fell to the Hornets in Fox River Classic Conference play 5-1.

The game featured three goals in the first 11 minutes.

Gresham volleyball team tops Bowler in five sets

West De Pere 3, Shawano 2

The Shawano Hawks played against a tough West De Pere squad in the final game of conference play but came up short 3-2.

The Hawks had been battling some illness since the weekend but still showed up to play extremely well. This is the first time the Hawks have played a five-set match all season.

Once Shawano’s offense kicked in, they were tough to defend.

DNR seeks comments for deer management unit boundary review

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking preliminary public input on proposed modifications to the state’s deer management unit boundaries. The comment period will run Oct. 11-20.

The DNR reviews deer management units every few years. This review will focus on the management units in the Northern Forest Zone, the Metropolitan subunits and the boundary lines between the Forest and Farmland Zones. The Farmland Zone units are not being reviewed at this time.

Panthers take third at home invite

Oconto Falls Invite

The Panthers placed third with a 4-1 record at their home invite.

Oconto Falls went 3-0 in pool play beating New London 25-15, 27-25, NEW Lutheran 25-22, 25-19 and Chilton 25-19, 25-14. In the Gold Bracket, Oconto Falls lost to tournament champion Freedom 23-25, 23-25 but beat NEW Lutheran 25-17, 17-25, 15-11.
