Shawano girls cross country runners going to state

Division 2 Sectional

Shawano’s girls cross country team will return to the state tournament after capturing second place at the Division 2 sectional at Colby/Abbotsford.

Tomahawk won the event with 67 points, and Shawano had 68.

Bailey Hendricks led the Hawks, winning second place overall in 20:00.2.

She was followed by Adalyn Barkley in 10th place in 21:04.4, Maci Beyer in 12th place in 21:10.9, Anabelle Schroeder in 20th in 21:50.2 and Mikelah Powers in 24th in 22:01.2.

3 local teams advance in football playoffs

Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy 24, Wausaukee 12

Max Peterson rushed for two touchdowns and Calvin Peters rushed for one score as Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy defeated Wausaukee 24-12 in their Level 1 playoff game.

Lena led 16-6 after the first quarter and added eight more in the second for a 24-6 halftime lead. Wausaukee scored six points in the third quarter, and that ended the scoring.

Shawano, Bonduel win regional volleyball titles

Shawano 3, Oconto Falls 1

The seance-seeded Shawano Hawks defeated top-seeded Oconto Falls to win the regional volleyball title.

Shawano won the first game 25-18, but Oconto Falls came back to claim the second game 25-22. The Hawks won the third game 25-16 and then eked out a 27-25 victory in the fourth and deciding game.

The Panthers end the season at 6-3 in the North Eastern Conference, behind a three-way tie for first. Oconto Falls was 28-13 overall.

Bonduel boys, girls to compete at state cross country meet

Division 1 and Division 3 sectionals

Pulaski’s Olivia Stedl captured third place overall at the sectional race and will represent the Red Raiders at the state cross country meet Nov. 2.

Sectional racing was held at Meadow Links Golf Course in Manitowoc and was hosted by Manitowoc Lincoln and Lutheran High School.

Stedl finished the race in 19:21.9. The Red Raiders placed eighth overall.

Gillett ends football season with a win

Gillett 36, Wild Rose 14

The Gillett Tigers ended their season with a non-conference game, defeating Wild Rose 36-14.

The Tigers took an 8-0 first quarter lead and held to a slim 15-14 halftime lead. Another touchdown in the third quarter and two more in the fourth sealed the win.

Gillett ends the season at 2-4 in the Across the Bay Conference and 3-6 overall.

Shawano wins regional soccer title

Shawano 2, New London 0

The Shawano Hawks are regional soccer champions after shutting out New London 2-0.

Shawano will take on Lakeland in sectional action Oct. 31.

West Bend West 1, Pulaski 0

The fourth-seeded Red Raiders fell to the fifth-seeded Spartans in the regional championship.

Shawano, Pulaski soccer teams move on to regional finals

Pulaski 5, Green Bay Southwest 0

The Red Raiders advanced to the regional title game after shutting out Green Bay Southwest 5-0.

Pulaski spread the scoring around, with goals coming from Colin Tackmier, Tate Gerth, Hudson Schultz, Josh Aranda and Maddox McKeefry.

Donovan Holderness and Parker Sanders each had one assist.

Josh Roth worked 65 minutes in the goal and made three saves. Jonah Drews worked the other 15 minutes, but Green Bay Southwest had no shots on goal in that time.

Shawano, Oconto Falls to face off for regional volleyball title

Shawano 3, Winneconne 0

Oconto Falls 3, Lakeland 1

Shawano will face off against Oconto Falls for the regional title in their Division 2 bracket Oct. 26.

The No. 2 seeded Hawks on Oct. 24 defeated Winneconne 3-0, while the No. 1 seeded Panthers topped Lakeland 3-1 in a much closer match.

Shawano won on scores of 25-6, 25-12 and 25-11.

Oconto Falls won the first game 25-15 but dropped the second 23-25. The Panthers then won the next two games on scores of 25-23 and 25-17.

Pulaski advances to soccer regional championship game

Pulaski 5, Green Bay Southwest 0

The fourth-seeded Red Raiders took down the 13th-seeded Trojans in first-round playoff action of the boys soccer state tournament.

Pulaski (14-3-3) got goals in the fourth and eighth minutes to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Hudson Schultz and Maddox McKeefry got the goals. Colin Tackmier found the net just before the half to put Pulaski up 3-0.

The Red Raiders added two more insurance goals in the second half, courtesy of Josh Aranda and Tate Gerth.

Tigerton wins volleyball regional match in 5 games

Tigerton 3, Stockbridge 2

Tigerton trailed Stockbridge 2-0 but came back from behind to win 3-2 and advance to the next round of Division 5 playoff action.

Stockbridge claimed 27-25 and 25-15 victories and needed just one more win to advance. Tigerton saw it differently; the Tigers needed three straight wins to come from behind and win. On scores of 25-17, 25-22, 15-13, Tigerton did just that.
