To the editor:

Turn the other cheek?

As the founder and director of a ministry, I found myself astonished by what a fellow ministry leader recently said to his fellow citizens, including those he represents in the 89th Assembly District.

Cheat like the Democrats or bend the rules? Punch our governor in the face? Continuously refuse to accept facts as facts despite overwhelming evidence of a clean and fair election? All this by state Rep. Elijah Behnke, who attended Bible college?

To the editor:

Speeches by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris blame Donald Trump for coordinating the events of Jan. 6, 2021. Harris went so far as to compare Jan. 6 to Dec. 7, 1941, and Sept. 11, 2001. Certainly, bad events in American history, but Pearl Harbor and the Twin Towers united America. Why, because Americans felt that we were attacked. Jan. 6 is similar to the Biden administration in the fact that it did not unite America in a common belief.

“If we don’t make a deal, that means they don’t get the money. That means they can’t have universal mail-in voting,” then-President Donald Trump said to Fox Business on Aug. 13, 2020, as he openly described his/the GOP plan to disenfranchise voters during the 2020 election by starving the United States Postal Service’s budget.

To the editor:

You may or may not have known our mother, Jeanne Waschbish, personally, but you may have met her on occasion or heard her name mentioned. In our humble opinion, Jeanne was a pillar of the community. She started her journey of community involvement in 1974 when she accepted a position at Cook Memorial Library and continued her work when the library moved to its new location on Main Street. She continued to volunteer at the library after her retirement in 2005.

LETTER: Mask policies are not about the science

To the editor:

Why is anyplace still requiring masks?

Studies that show facemasks are effective have one or more of four flaws:

• They only look at N95 or better, not surgical or cloth.

• They look at clinical, not community settings.

• They don’t look at wearing them for hours at a time.

• They’re so badly designed any data accumulated by them is suspect.

Studies that are free of these flaws consistently come to one of two conclusions: Facemasks make no statistical difference, and facemasks increase infections.

LETTER: Better to be cautious than allow tragedy

To the editor:

No good deed goes unpunished.

Recently I saw a man slumped over the steering wheel on the side of the road. I stopped to ask if he was OK. He got angry and told me to mind my own business.

Last summer, I saw a woman in a car following a boy on a bike and talking to him. I followed her and called the police — I thought this may be a child abduction. Turns out the woman was the child’s mother. She came over to my truck yelling at me to mind my own business.

LETTER: Legislative districts should be drawn fairly

To the editor:

A recent article reminisced about the former positive political climate and reputation for effective, clean government in Wisconsin. It argued that reputation resulted from priorities expected of those we elected to serve us. Top was serving interests of the Assembly or Senate district, followed by that of the institution of the legislative body to which they were elected, and third, the interests of a political party.

To the editor:

We haven’t had such division in our country since United States Sen. Joseph McCarthy made false accusations of treason among left-wing individuals in the 1950s. His campaign spread fear of alleged communist and socialist influence on American institutions and espionage by Soviet Agents. He lost credibility after several of his accusations were found to be false.

We typically do not raise issues occurring in Washington with the public, but because the people in our community are important to us, we want to inform our neighbors of proposed legislation that could significantly impact millions of families and small businesses.

To the editor:

In the recent edition of the Shawano Leader, there was an article describing the dedication of the new Shawano County Republican party headquarters. The highlighted guests were Rep. Mike Gallagher and Sen. Ron Johnson. Of course, the attendance of these individuals was highly appropriate.
