Oconto Falls ADRC branch office to expand

OCONTO FALLS — Oconto County has entered into a modified lease for its Aging and Disability Resources Center to accommodate expanded services for people and their families who are dealing with dementia.

The ADRC of the Wolf River Region – which serves residents of Oconto, Shawano and Menominee counties, as well as the Stockbridge-Munsee Community – has been expanding services at its Oconto Falls satellite office at 229 Van Buren St., county Health and Human Services Director Mike Reimer told the Oconto County Board during its Jan. 23 meeting.

OCONTO — It’s not a question of if, but when, flooding will happen along the bay shore this spring, Oconto County and municipal leaders warned in an update for bay shore residents last week.

County officials are working with the towns of Little River, Oconto, Pensaukee, Little Suamico and the city of Oconto to monitor and provide preparedness information to residents.

COUNTY LINE — After chatting in the barn for a few minutes, Philip Finger looked over and smiled at a white-faced cow that poked her face through the stanchion.

“She’s following us around,” he said, smiling and going over to pat the big animal’s head. “She’s curious about the visitor.”

Sure enough, the cow had been enjoying lunch near the bottom door but had ambled along the row as Philip and his wife, Laura, walked and talked about their selection as 2020 Wisconsin Outstanding Young Farmers.

School arsonist faces child abuse charges

OCONTO — The man convicted of burning down St. Anthony School in Oconto Falls eight years ago now stands accused of severely injuring a 3-month-old girl in his home.

Vincent J. Enneper, 24, of Oconto Falls, is charged in Oconto County Circuit Court with child abuse intentionally causing great bodily harm, child abuse recklessly causing great harm, first-degree recklessly endangering safety and neglecting a child with the consequence of great bodily harm.

Enneper is scheduled to make an initial appearance Feb. 13 before Judge Jay N. Conley.

Pulaski yacht-maker eyes temporary shutdown

PULASKI — Marquis Yachts is in active talks to sell its manufacturing facility at 790 Markham Drive in Pulaski. But because the sale probably won’t be completed by the end of this month, the company may have to shut down beginning March 1, idling all 344 workers at least temporarily.

Two killed, one injured in two-vehicle crash

Two people were killed and another seriously injured Thursday in a wrong-way crash on U.S. 141 in Lena.

The Oconto County Sheriff’s Department said the accident happened when a sport-utility vehicle driven by Sande Walker, 59, of Oconto Falls, was traveling north in the southbound lanes when it collided with a southbound truck about a quarter-mile north of County Road A near the on ramp.

Emergency dispatch logs indicate the call came in at 5:36 p.m.

Walker and the truck driver, Marvin Lueneburg, 73, of De Pere died at the scene, the department said.

Oconto County Veterans’ records to be digitized

OCONTO — A Wausau firm has been hired to digitize hundreds of thousands of Oconto County veterans’ records dating back more than a century.

The County Board voted 29-1 Thursday to approve a contract with Q Solutions to scan about 9,900 folders containing an estimated 385,000 paper documents of county veterans who served as far back as the Spanish-American War and World War I.

“The purpose of this is to preserve the historical value, properly secure and safeguard the records and improve the efficiency in our office,” Veterans Service Officer Ron Christensen told the board.

Gillett volunteer to be honored

GILLETT — Growing up in a humble family of 10 on a small farm just outside of Gillett helped form a solid background of selflessness for Cora Rotter-Boerst. Family values were at the roots that have led to a lifetime of volunteerism.

Rotter-Boerst is the guest of honor at the upcoming Gillett Civic Club/Business Association Valentine’s Party, scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Main Event, 206 Lemke St., Cecil.
