Elementary schools make grade on report cards

Officials at the elementary schools in the Wittenberg-Birnamwood School District have much to be happy about, as both schools received four-star ratings that indicate they’re exceeding the expectations set by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction in the annual report cards released in November.

However, the report cards also indicate that Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School is not meeting the standards, receiving only a two-star rating.

Gillett Middle School gets high marks

U.S. News and World Report has ranked Gillett Middle School among the top 100 middle schools in Wisconsin in its annual report of the best schools in the country.

“We’re in the top 40% of middle schools everywhere,” Superintendent Wayne Johnson said during the Gillett School Board meeting Nov. 16.

The ranking at usnews.com shows Gillett as 87th among 494 middle schools in the state of Wisconsin, with student reading and math performance skills “well above expectations” compared to other schools in the state.

Letter grades suspended for Shawano schools

SHAWANO — The Shawano School Board approved a revised grading system Monday following Gov. Tony Evers’ decision to extend the closure of all schools through the end of the school year in June.
