Three area boys hockey teams come up short

Bay Area skaters had a flurry of 46 shots on goal against Sheboygan but ended up on the short end of a 6-3 final score.

Already down 4-0 late in the second period, the Storm finally connected on a goal from Cash Ebeling with Brody Hronek assisting.

The Red Raiders scored again in the second period and then in the third to take a 6-1 lead.

Race schedule announced for 2026

Opening night for the 2026 racing season at the Shawano Speedway is tentatively set for April 11, race officials announced.

Dirt King late models will be featured April 18 and Aug. 29.

Other special events include spectators eliminators June 27, salute to veterans July 4, Hall of Fame on July 11, Racing 4 a Reason on July 25, corn roast Aug. 15 and championship night Sept. 5.

Defense helps keep Chargers undefeated

Two state-ranked teams, a combined a record of 23-1 and first place in the conference on the line added up to an intriguing girls basketball matchup Jan. 13 in Bonduel.

The intrigue didn’t last very long, however, as Wittenberg-Birnamwood held Bonduel to 12 points in the first half and cruised to a 58-35 win over the Bears.

Rogowski balances coaching with running a school district

Garrett Rogowski has a lot on his plate and wouldn’t want it any other way.

As administrator of the Wittenberg-Birnamwood School District, a position he has held since 2009, he deals with budgets, staffing and overseeing a district that includes three schools in two communities.

He’s also in his seventh season of coaching the Chargers boys basketball team.

Nordin hits 2,000-point milestone

With a major milestone in her sights, Shawano’s Leah Nordin entered the Jan. 9 home game against Xavier just 11 points shy of 2,000 career points.

A layup in the game put the UW-bound senior in the record books.

Miller earns 150 career wins

Wittenberg-Birnamwood wrestler Ben Miller earned his 150th career win Jan. 10 at the Merrill Invitational. To top off his day, he also finished in first place in his weight class.
