Eagles seal the deal from free-throw line

That’s the message Warren Wilber III had for the Menominee Nation girls basketball team as the coach gathered his squad for a timeout during a Central Wisconsin Conference-East matchup with Iola-Scandinavia.

The Eagles were trailing the host Thunderbirds by three points with fewer than three minutes to go Feb. 6 and their top player – Urijah Reevis – had just left the game with an ankle injury.

Gillett and Wausaukee battled back and forth throughout the game, but the Rangers ended up on top 36-34 in boys basketball action.

Pulaski held Ashwaubenon to only five points in the first half en route to a 43-27 Fox River Classic Conference win.

CWC Conference Meet

Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s boys wrestling team placed third at the Central Wisconsin Conference Championships in Wittenberg.

Weyauwega-Fremont won the conference title with 256 points, followed by Shiocton with 235.5 and Wittenberg-Birnamwood with 122.5.

Ice Bears dominate Warhawks in 7-1 win

Saturday, Feb. 7

Bay Area 7, Arrowhead 1

Lily Lyons had two goals and two assists for the Ice Bears in a 7-1 victory over the Warhawks.

Hannah Von Haden also scored two goals for Bay Area. Bailey Hronek, Elizabeth Zunker and Faye Brunke also scored.

Lena boys top Gillett

Lena 57, Gillett 45

Lena captured its second Marinette & Oconto Conference win of the season when the Wildcats beat Gillett 57-45.

But, Gillett remains above Lena in the standings, having lost eight games compared to Lena’s nine.

Dash Comins led Lena with 17 points. Luke Koslowsky scored 15.
