James A. “Jim” Redmond, 94, of Gresham, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019 in Shawano. Jim, the son of the late John and Ella (Gable) Redmond, was born on Jan. 16, 1925, in Arpin. On June 16, 1956, he was united in marriage to his beloved Anna Neumeier in Gresham.
Jim received a bachelor’s degree in agriculture at University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1946. He then went on to receive his master’s degree in agriculture through University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1960. Jim’s love of agriculture lead him to establish the Redmond’s Strawberry business, which taught his children the value of hard work and, most importantly, the value of family.
Jim’s first job was in Clear Lake, where he taught agriculture to high school students for one year. He then took a job in Pittsville, his hometown, where he taught for three years. Jim moved on to accept a teaching position in the Shawano-Gresham School District in 1953, where he continued to teach and mentor many students until his retirement in 1985.
Jim was an avid bowler for many years both in Gresham and Shawano. He had a passion for deer hunting. After retirement, he acquired a love for golf, where he was known to be seen almost daily at Pine Hills Golf Course. He even got a hole-in-one on hole eight in June 2001.
One of Jim’s most important accomplishments and a source of pride was being a part of the Gresham Lions Club. He proudly served for 66 years and received several recognition awards for his service. However, Jim’s greatest source of pride was his loving wife, Anna, and his seven children.
Jim was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Anna, for over 63 years and the loving father of Kris (Joe) Hodgson, of De Pere, Pat (Teresa) Redmond, of River Falls, Becky (Mark) Dillenburg, of Shawano, Jackie (Rick) Dorshorst, of Waukesha, Wendy (Paul) Ainsworth, of Shawano, Amy (George) Craig, of Oshkosh, and John (Lori) Redmond, of Ripon. Jim is further survived by 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Everett (Gen) Redmond, of Pittsville and Charles “Chuck” (Aggie) Redmond, of Athens, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and six brothers.
A funeral service for Jim will be held at 3:30 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham with the Rev. Joel Jores officiating. Entombment will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Visitation will be held on Saturday at church from 2 p.m. until the time of service.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Shawano Health Services for the wonderful care given to Jim during his 1½ years there.
